It's been a busy month with the 7th
and Hth grade girls competing in
game after game o f junior high
basketball On January 20. the
Hcppner girls traveled to Athena
Weston to meet their opponent in
hopes «if winning their last away
game The 7th grade girls pulled it
o ff by defeating Athena Weston with
a score o f 31-21 The Hth grade girls
weren't quite as lucky, but they did
try their N‘ st. only 10 lose by su
points
On January 18. Heppner had
N>mc court advantage in their game
against the Columbia Irrigon girls
fhith 7th and 8th grade girls played
an excellent and exciting match for
their h*»mc town and ended the «lay
in victory, with the 8th grade winn

one basts with the newly wuiowed in helping them t«> understand the g rid
process and to cope with and adjust to the loss o f a spouse Widowed as
a young woman herself. Dr Barstad u>ld us that the newly widowed arc
more likely to relate to and accept help from those who have experienced
this For over ten years she has worked as a volunteer with this well
researched and planned program to "g iv e help to widows when they so
desperately need it ” The intention o f AARP is that at least two volunteer
trainers w ill emerge from these classes to teach other classes in an ongoing
program o f a w illo w s' support group here
Also on Thursday, at 7 p m in the dining room a Blue Mountain Com
munity College knitting class w ill he taught by Sandra Van Licw Sandra
says that all knitters from beginners to adsanced arc welcome The class
runs Thursdays to Feb 22 and is tuition free to seniors
