lone boys varsity starts league season one and one

The lone boy* varsity started their
league season on the road with a win
over Hell* and then vented for a split
on the weekend with a loss at the
hands of Sherman Counts Their
league record stands at I -1 and their
season total is 3-7.
The Cards arm ed at Hell* ready
to play They jumped out to a 16 X
first quarter lead and pushed on to
a 30-17 halftime advantage Hell*
rallied to within three points at the
end of the third quarter, with the
score 39-36 in lone's favor The
Cardinals then regrouped in the
fourth quarter, outscoring their op^
ponent 19 8 for a final score of
58A4
Mike Cianm of lone was the game
high punt nun with 2* Shawn
Hams added 14 and Jim Davison
shipped in 10 The Cardinals had the
rebounding advantage with Hams
grabbing 10 and Mark Anderson
coming off the bench to add another
10 David Nkagenbiast and Hams had
four assists each and GaiTetl and
Shawn Hams each racked up three
steals lone shot 43 percent from the
floor, compared to 27 percent for
Heli* The Cards made 47 percent
from the free throw line compared
to just 36 percent for the Grt/rlies

Fillies down Stanfield
51-48 for second win

The Heppner Fillies picked up
their second CBC victory when they
traveled to Stanfield Saturday
January 6 and beat the Tigers 3 1 48
The Fillies and Tigers kept the
score close in the first period as
Heppner outscorcd Stanfield by on
ly two Jennifer Currin scored eight
first quarter punts and Dulcic
Palmer added seven punts to give
Heppner an 18 16 lead at the end of
the quarter The Fillies fell behind
in the second quarter as the Tigers
outscorcd them 12 8 Stanfield had
a slim 28 26 lead at halt time
The two teams battled and the
score remained close in the third
quarter Stanfield increased its lead
and had a four punt lead going into
the final quarter The Fillies defense
held the Tigers to just si* punts in
the fourth quarter Heppner scored
13 to squeak out a close 31 48 vie
tory Jennifer Currin led all scorers
with 23 punts and 14 rebounds
Dulcic Palmer added 11 punts and
Nikki Hrisbois chipped in 10 punts
for the victorious Fillies

back down to earth when they en
countered Sherman County The
Cards found themselves to he no
ntalch for the seasoned Huskies, who
ran away with a 74-52 victory.
Sherman County implemented a
tight press in the first quarter forc­
ing a number of lone turnover* The
Huskies led 23-6 at the end of the
first quarter and continued to roll to
* 42-17 halt time lead The Cards
got into their game in the second
half, twlscoring the Huskies in both
the third and fourth quarters, but the
first half lead was insurmountable
Despite being in foul trouble
again. Mike Garrett was high scorer
with 24 points Sherman County's
6 '4 " Doug Martin was their high
scorer with 28 points Jim Davison
was in double figures for the Cards

Cards found themselves lacking in

without a game The Grizzlies had
played in a holiday tournament the
previous weekend and were
prepared to use the home court to
their advantage The game was close
the whole way. with the lead chang
ing hands several times Heli* held
a two point advantage at the end of
the first quarter but lone scrambled
back to a one bucket lead at the half ,
21 19 The third quarter found the
Cards ahead by one point, 31-30
IXtwn the final stretch, lone was able
to outscorc the Grizzlies. 8 6, to eek

The lone boys junior varsity
chalked up some experience and
playing time but didn't manage to
put one in the win column last
weekend as ihcs went down in defeat
to Heli* and Sherman County
Friday at Heli*. the Cardinals ran
up against a taller and more e*

didn't play too badly I he team is

them haven't played organized
