Hamlelt was Sunday Dec 3 1 at the
United Church of Christ in lone
Concluding service and burial were
at High View Cemetery in lone
Mrs Hamlett, 72. of lone, died
Wednesday. Dec 27. 1989. at Canid
Samaritan Hospital in Portland
She was horn June 4, 1917 at
Morgan, to John and Mary l.undell
Swanson In 1920. the family mov­
ed to lone where she grew up and
attended school, graduating from
lone High School in 1935 That
same year, she attended Willamette
University in Salem and in 1936.
transferred to Oregon State College
She returned to lone in 1940 and
worked as a deputy assessor and
later worked as an insurance agent
for many years
In October 1944, she enlisted in
the U S Navy as a WAVE She was
discharged in March 1946 She
returned to lone for a year, and then
moved to San J«>sc, Calif
On Nov 19. 1948, she married
William Adon Hamlett at Sunnyvale.
Calif In 1949, the couple came to
lone and operated an insurance
agency
They moved to Fruitland. Idaho in
I960, returning to lone in 1964
She was a member of the Bun

Thursday, Dec 28. 1989 at Gtxxl
Shepherd Community Hospital in
Hcrmiston
He was horn Jan 20. 1918. in
Unity to Melvin and Valentine
Scribner Wham The family lived in
the Unily/Bakcr area for a time and
moved to Rin/ua in 1927 He left
Kin/ua in 1956 and moved to
Beaverton, coming to Heppner this
past June to be near his daughter
He served with the U S. C’i*ast
Guard during World War II
He was a purchasing agent for
Km/ua Corp , he also worked as a
salesman for A W Davis Co
Mr Wham was active in pro
mttting civic activities in the Km/ua
area He was past commander of
American legion at Km/ua. presi
dent of the Kin/ua Rod A Gun Club
and a member of the Masonic
lodge
Survivors include his daughter,
Pat McMinn of Heppner; sister.
Arlene Schroebcr of Princvillc, two
grandchildren
and
two
great grandchildren
Memorial contributions may he
made to the Shrmers Hospital for
