RHS girls basketball officially underway

Girls basketball at Riverside High
School officially began with practice
on November 13 They got a bit of
a late start with Nxh their varsity and
junior varsity coaches Mr Dirksen
and Mr Costello, still coaching the
football team
The Pirates have a good turnout
this year with a tout of 36 girls
There are 11 on the varsity team. 14
on the junior varsity team, and 11 on
the freshmen team
"The turnout is very good, but the
best thing is not the number that tur
nout. it is the ability of these girls,"
states coach Dirksen "W e have
quite a few girl» who have improv
ed alot since last season "
Riverside has four returning
seniors, Sharms Evans. Marty Suter,
Lisa Short and Joy Hellherg Three
of these seniors are returning starters
from last year's team.

with parents night on November 28
and officially with the Morrow
County Invitational Tournament
December 1 and 2 in Hcppner

presented their volleyball awards at
the annual fall sports banquet.
November 21
Kassie Westmoreland swept the
awards presentation with best at

valuable player’ awards Wendy
Dawson was the recipient of 'most
inspirational' and most hustle'

Oregon State Grange entertained
the Pomona master and state and
county deputies with a sc h o o l of in-
stniction on Saturday A g»xxi crowd
was in attendance to hear a report
given by Master Johnson on the re
cent attendance at national Grange
The obligation ceremony was
discussed al some length, and before
this can he administered a permit
mut he obtained from the Master.

Forty three little girls just about
got their heart's desire this week
The girls all of Hcppner Elementary
School got the opportunity to dance
with the Hcppner High Scfxxil dance
team
Dance team members Joanna
Welch. Alicia Tarnasky. Jeannine
Patterson and Tiffany Harrison and
dance team advisor Michelle War
burton, conducted a workshop fot
the girls from 3 30 to 4 30 every
afternoon this week to teach them a
dance routine On Friday and Satur
day the girls in kindergarten through
suth grade, will be able to perform
at halt time at the Morrow County
Invitational Tournament
The workshop is a fund raiser for
the dance team, who charged S3 for
each participant
