To the Editor:
To the voters of Morrow County
This letter is to voice my support
of the Morrow County School
District Hoard of Directors and my
opposition lo the recall of Hill
Doherty and Marcia Kemp I helieve
all the Nwrd members should he ap
prcciutcd and applauded, no« recall
ed. and I earnestly request they he
retained on the hoard by your votes
The underlying purpose of the
recall attempt and the lawsuit seems
to he to " g e t” the superintendent
From 23 years experience working
for the school district and six
supermtrndrn*- I <-->n tc'* yi*' ♦»••x
is the long way and the wrong way
and is not justified
If "Fresh S tan" really wants to
start fresh. I would suggest they start
by attending hoard meetings and
budget committee meetings This is
the logical way to learn the functions
of the hoard and to meet the direc
tors face to face since they spend a
large part of their time at meetings
Remember Blowing out the other
fellow's candle docs not make yours
shine any brighter
Sincerely,
(s) Alice Vance

Let’s make a change in game plan

are the best way wc have of resolving dipustes in an orderly, civilized
I ash ion
Yes, what w c'rt driving at iv the lawsuit in which wc arc one of several
plaintiffs against the individual members of the school hoard I he pur
pose o f the suit is to compel the hoard members to reimburse the sch«*ol
district for the wages paid to certain substitute teachers hired during the
strike W'c think those teachers lacked the proper credentials to teach school
under the circumstances and the law prohibits the districl from hiring them
To do so was illegal just as if the directors had stolen the money paid lo
them We certainly don't expect our School Hoard of Directors to spend
our tax money illegally, and at the same time take unnecessary risks with
our children If they do. is it unjust that they he held accountable ’
There is an additional motive, personal to me I've heard many people-
say that there arc plenty of good teachers looking for work, we don't need
the ones we've got Thai is not so The lawsuit will show thai there was
not enough teachers with proper credentials to fill our schools and that
is why the district hired some illegally. It's not as if some purpose was
served It costs more to hire those substitute teachers than it would have
cost to settle with the present staff Somehow I think it I can help
demonstrate that it is not easy to replace our present staff, then our hoard
will put a little more value to them, recognize their importance to the cduca
lion process, and act a little more responsibly two years from now when
we go through this same process again That responsibility may well in
elude discharging the poorer teachers on the staff in the manner pros tded
by law rather than creating an adverse atmosphere in hopes that they will
quit Many of the good ones have quit too
You see. I think a good education is important I think good teachers
arc essential Good teachers have a high value to me I would h«'pc to show
that good teachers arc hard to replace I am not satisfied with someone
who is warm and caring but without teaching skills I am not so loolish
as to claim our kids cannot read, most read well enough to get into the
best universities around I only seek to demonstrate that the illegal expen
diturc of taxpayer funds, to pursue a misguided concept will not go
unnoticed
