I have been meaning to write and,
as too often is the case, wav
sidetracked by many daily affairs I
have received nothing but wonder
ful reports about the Heppncr High
School seniors who were at The
Lodge on May 2h to 28 I'm sorry
to hear that a neighbor did not pro
vale a good welcome, hut later
members of that household com
mented positively about the students
We would certainly welcome back
Heppncr students

I am most distressed I have just
finished reading a newspaper article
about seven Morrow County
residents who have filed a law suit
against all of the Morrow County
School Hoard members personally
I think this is about the most appall
ing form of harassment used so far
According to the article, they arc
n«*l looking for district funds They
want the individuals to repay the
district what they have determined
arc damages out of their personal
assets Even if the allegations arc
true (which I personally do not
believe), why arc they attacking
these people on a personal level in
stead of as a governing body which
is the capacity in which they were
acting when making all decisions tor
ihc district Furthermore, if these
"private citizens" really had a
legitimate complaint about the cm-
harassment, humiliation, pain,
anger, etc that they claim, why docs
not the law suite iik lude the Morrow
County Education Association and
it's members as well
Both sides have contributed to the
conflict that has come from contract
negotiations breakdown and the
following strike I am sure that the
School Board would be the first to
admit that they too have made
mistakes during this awtul time lint
how many of us out here complain
ing about their decisions can be
absolutely without a doubt positive,
that h.ul we been in the board
members shoes, would have had a
more positive impact on the
situation
Some of us. most assuredly,
would have done things differently,
but would our decisions have avoid
ed this conflict altogether Thai is
after all. the only way this situation
would have been improved
We have all lost so muvh already
in this ordeal (friendships, trust,
security to name a very Icw i lart's
start being accountable lor our own
actions and quit being to ready to
pass judgement on others

include both aiding new industry and
training our workers.
Oregon has a new minimum wage,
took steps to stop log exports, and
called for overdue improvements to
fish hatcheries All this and more
-without raising income taxes one
dime In fact, taxpayers will receive
more than SIN) million in refunds
