Hcppner Chamber of Commerce
endorses the siting of a medium
security prison in Boardman The
siting of this MX) bed prison west of
Boardm an would stabilize the
economic base of the community Its
creation would result in an additional
175 full time permanent jobs for the
area with an annual payroll of over
$3.3 million.
Oreogn has a lack of prisons. By
helping our state, we also benefit
from the jobs and additional
economy this industry will create.
Pendleton has shown no increase
in enme since their prison was com
pleted They have shown an increase
in real estate Boardman prison
would also be under electronic sur-
vailence
Safety
has been
researched
Boardman is encouraged to forge
ahead with the necessary steps to
c«»mpetc for the prison site, an op
portunity that represents sustained
growth that is needed, cost effective,
and controllable.

Historical Society trip planned

Society trip for this year is planned
and the group will be going to
Florence for a couple of nights A
trip down the coast, a visit to the
sand dunes and the Sea Lion Caves
and a museum tour ami some shop
ping arc among the things planned
