The City o f Heppner reports that
a water sample taken during the
month o f January , 19X4. exceeded
federal drinking water standards for
coliform bacteria Samples taken
since that time have met standards
and the city has a long standing
record o f gixxi samples
Coliform bacteria arc not harmful,
but are used as an indicator o f
overall water quality No health risk
is indicated in this case, and the
bacteria could be present due to a
number o f causes, including dirt in
the reservoir, lack of flushing of dead
end mains, or sampling error No
action by water customers was war
ranted but federal and state regula
tions require that the city provide this
notice.
