month ol January, 1989, exceeded
federal drinking water standards lor
coliform bacteria Samples taken
since that time have met standards
ami the city has a long standing
record of good samples
Coliform hactcna arc not harmful,
hut are used as an indicator ol
overall water quality No health risk
is indicated in this case, and the
bacteria could he present due to a
number of causes, including dirt in
the reservoir, lack of Hushing of dead
end mains, or sampling error No
action by water customers was war
ranted hut federal and state regula
lions require that the city provide this
