Port votes on 2nd Bond levy
To the Editor
On March 2*. 1989 the Pori of
Morrow will have iti 2nd Bond Levy
Election The fir« failed by a small
margin Why it was turned down I
think, was due to misunderstandings
which has prompted me to put in my
two bits worth on this one
As a Charter member o f the Port
Commission (17 years tenure from
1959 to 1976) I have found the
voters here supportive and proud of
their Port s accomplishments After
all the Port's assets do belong to the
people and the Commission's direc
tive has been to pros ide jobs and in
crease our tax base, providing
economic development and giving
our youth the opportunity to live and

I would like to make a complaint
about the vlnke I think it is stupid
for the teachers to be on strike Get
superintendent Doyle McCasItn and
the school hoard out.
I think that the teachers should
have a contract We students
shouldn't have to go to school so the
teachers would get there |obs back
work in our county
I urge a yes vote on the bond
measure The coat is minimal com
pared to saving 500 600 jobs and
promoting more For example, if
you own a $50.000 home, your total
co« would be $5 per year which
doesn't seem too much to ask for
The Commission needs this boost
to help with the utility rate structure
which is not competitive at this time,
and to help with some funds to allow
the Port to broaden its activity to
other parts of our county.
So let's do ourselves proud Vote
yes March 28 on the Port's bond
issue

ballot The approval of the bond
issue will nuke the Hirt's utility exists
more competitive for existing in
dustry in the Port, will give the Port
funds to acquire property in the
Heppner, lone and lexington area
for future economic development
and provide funding for shoreline
stabilization in the Port area All of
this can he accomplished with a very
small increase in our tax hill

First Place in the float division was the Grasshopper Festival
from Monument with their giant grasshopper
The ram came pouring down in
buckets until five minutes before
parade time and just as the parade
started, the sun came oui and shone
down on parade watchers
Larry Mills did his usual job as an
nounoer for the parade and there was
a good turnout despite the ram
Winning first place for floats in the
St Patrick’s Day parade was the
Grasshopper Festival from Monu
ment with their huge grasshopper
Second place went to Krebs family
with their "Flow the Sheepmen won
the W est" float.

umbia was first place in Irish
characters and A B Me Ball (Archie
Ball) second First place in the
miscellaneous group was Abbv Kahl
