authorization for the Port o l M o r

$50,000 home w ill cost approx
imately $5 (one time only), and a
$100,000 piece o f property w ill cost
only $10 (one lim e o n ly )
This money w ill allow the port to
make some much needed im
provements. to rearrange its in
dehtedness, to purchase a few need
cd acres for expansion and to help
them operate more etficienily It w ill
allow the Port to be more com
petitive for business
Business at the port is increasing
The over the dock tonnage has gone
up When the solid waste business
begins the port w ill he humming
with activity
This all adds up to an improved
economy in M orrow County more
jobs, more purchasing power and
stabilized property values
I urge you to support the bond

Pastor Rick Hv'cnson and Pastor Don
Boyce During this d iffic u lt time
with teacher contract negotiations,
which has created so much strife tor
all of us. it is indeed gratifying to
know that our religious leaders are
doing something to facilitate a bet
ter understanding o f the issues,
which may in turn help in resolving
the situation
The decision to sponsor the open
forum could not have been an easy
one So many o f our community
members choose not lo eet involved
with this issue in any way. The
Pastors are to be commended for
their tenacity
The forum could not have taken
place, however, i f not for the
cooperation o f the M orrow County
School Board, particularly M r
Duane Carroll and (he teas hers who

ly those who participated on the
panel

Legislation introduces for tax bases

legislation that would allow the
whole state to vote on a tax base for
any school districts operating under
a safety net
The importance o f this legislation
to allow a statewide vote goes
beyond whether your district is in a
safety net. in that it infringes upon
your district's right to he the vile in
flucnce on local issues in your area
If your district is operating within the
-safety net, there w ill be a six percent
increase for every year your district
has operated in the safety net to
calculate the new tax base In the
case o f many Oregon school districts
and counties, the property values
have decreased in the last few years
I f those values would remain stag
nant or continue to decrease, you
would be faced w ith a 6 7 increase
on your budgets without a vote every
year
The prospect o f this kind o f tax
base is going to stop any new
businesses in your area i f your tax
ing rates arc high, unless the
businesses arc on the government
