Hermiston. traveled to four rodeos
over the week-end From Ontario to
Longview. Wa to Hillsboro and
Redmond, they were kept very busy
Joan won second in the first go
round at Longview. Wa., second in
the second go-round and first in the
average for a win of over $850
From Longview, they traveled to
Hillsboro, where Joan won first
place and approximately $900. with
a time of 17 6 Forty-one girls par
ticipated there and sister Maureen
placed fifth Joan it now one of the

session of the Governor's Con-
ference and the ethnic evening which
will include Indian. Mexican,
Japancse. amt Irish food and enter-
tainment It was suggested that the
placcmats might be used for one of
the meals at the conference

screen production dunng the Gover
nor's Conference the importance
of Morrow County being
represented with adequate slides was
stressed, as the production will be

Dave Sykes sefit a report on the
restaurants contacted about
place mats Dodge City was not will-
ing to pay more than $10 per thou
sand and others were unwilling to
commit. therefore it was Dave's
recommendation that $10 be the
price offered to restaurants The
committee decided to go with the
$10 per thousand, so that placcmats
will be circulated before the hunting
season is over It is important that
they be used previous to lair, round
up. hunting season and other times
when traffic is heavy.
Roger Williams reported the first
scenic By-Way designation is in
the Blue Mt Scenic By-Way He
will be submitting proposal to show
why this area is a by-way candidate
and how it fits with land manage
menl When the proposal is ready,
letters of support will be needed
from Chamber. Tourism Commit-
tee. and the county,
Claudia reported dates are nccd-
ed for the 1989 state calendar of
events by August 15.
The group toured the manna and
determined it is a wonderful facility
and needs lots of publicity and 1-84
signage Sixty-three camp sites are
available

The Pendleton Chapter of the
Rocky Mountain F.lk Foundation hjs
announced that its first annual ban
quet and auction will be held at the
Pendleton Red Lion Motel on Fri
day. August 12
The Rocky Mountain F.lk Founda
tion is an international non profit
wildlife organization dedicated to
conservation of the elk resource, and
preservation and improvement of elk
habitat in North America The
organization was founded in Troy,
Montana in May |d84, and current
ly has over 30.000 members
The Foundation's primary objec­
tive is to raise funds from private
sources to support "on the ground"
projects which benefit elk and elk
habitat Examples include manage
ment related research, elk
transplants into areas of suitable
habitat, habitat aquisitions. and
habitat improvement projects
Although the Foundation is only four
years old, it has already helped
