governor is hell bent on repealing the
stale spending limit so hr can spend more stale income tax dollars We
have apparently two Presidential candidates who believe the national deficit
can best be closed by a tax increase rather than a spending cut
(Kir own government is a financial cancer among us that is beyond our
control I fear we will collapse under the sheer weight of our own govern
ment rhere are not |ust a few historic examples to support that conclusHW
And every time government has a little more money, we lose a little
more individual freedom Not just the financ lal freedom the money would
give, but some of the freedom to seek life, liberty and happiness
Building codes, and zoning regulations, the pursuit of a business, oc
cupation or just a job. recreational activities, travel by car or plane, or
bicycle or even on foot, rearing children or caring for old folks, every
where we turn there are myriad governmental regulations, programs and
loss of individual freedoms all of which costs more and more tax dollars
to administer
We will all eventually reach the point that not another new governmen
tal program could possibly be worth the cost in additional new taxes, or
loss in freedom T iki few of us arc there now Too many of us will con
tinue to support some form of governmental gntwth Most ot us still have
some pet project, some searing issue ah»*ut which we will say, ’’There
ought to be a law " As long as wc do, there certainly will be (probably
not about our issue though) and the cancer among us will grow and grow
and consume us all

Rucker. 79. a longtime resident of
Irrigon died Sunday. July 10. 1988
at his home
He was horn Dec 8. 1909 at

Rucker served with the Marine

He was bom at Franklin, Ky . on
- May 27. 1899. son of William T
and Sara F Perry Boles
At the age of seven he moved w ith
his family to Texola. Okla The
family later moved to Springfield.
Colo where they homesteaded in
1914 Boles was caught in a blizzard
during the naive
He helped haul rocks and dug out
a shelter until the Springfield home
was built The homestead was later
traded for two homes in laM ar,
Colo
In 1919 Boles married Mamie O
Musgrove xn LaMar. They lived
there until 1937 when they moved to
Vale where they resided until his
wife died
1975
He married Juanita Ruth Ham
mack in 1976 The couple moved to
Irrigon where he has resided
He enjoyed gardening and play ing
dominos with his son Jack
He helped care for Elvon Gene
Jenkins just like a son He taught his
gran d so n .

He was bom January 23. 1919, in
Heppner He attended grade schools
in Hardman and Rhea Creek He
graduated from Heppner High
School in 1936 On August 24.
1941. he married Alice M Taft, in
Glona Gardens. CA He graduated
from Howard Payne College in
Brown wood. Texas in 1951. He
pastured and started churches in
Texas. Oregon and Washington
He helped start the Bailie
Memorial Boys Ranch (aka Bailie
Memorial Youth Ranch) near Mesa.
Washington where he worked for ten
years as ranch manager and four
years as house parent with his wife
Alice l.aicr they were house parents
at the Thayer House in Richland.
