What are the three assurances for the Christian’ I The Word of Cod
as seen pnmanly and objectively in the scripture* "He who has the Son
has life,” (I John 3:12) and therefore, when you trust Chnsts word and
act upon it by asking Him into your life, you can know that He has come
according to Hi* promise, and that you now have eternal life Peter said
much the same thing ‘‘Through the living and eternal woid of God you
have been bom again" (I Peter 1 23). And Jesus taught that the wise per
son "hears these words of mine and acts upon them " The house of his
life would stand firmly on the rock of Christ and his word even in the midst
of storm and tempest " (Matthew 7: 24-27).
When Jesus himself was being buffet led by doubt sNirtly after His Father
had said to Him "Y ou are my beloved Son.” he countered Satan with the
word of God Three times He said " h is written
He was quoting from
the scriptures. (Matthew 4 M l ) It was in this way that he stood firm
on the rock Rely on subjective experience* and you will be up and down
like a yo yo But depend upon the objective facts of Gods' promises and
you have a basic stability to your faith that nothing can finally shake Scrip
hire cannot be broken said Jesus Here are a few well tried promises for
you to remember and claim.
" I give them eternal life and they shall never perish and no one shall
snatch them out of my hand"; " I will never fail you nor forsake you";
" I am with you always to the close of the age"; "H e who comes to Me,
I will not cast o u t".
In your own reading of the Bible, you will find it valuable to add to these
promises, and to leam them Perhaps writing them down in a notebook
Many find this of considerable help, especially in the early days

The Board of Directors of the
Morrow County Historical Society
met at the home of Mr and Mrs
Jerry Peck in Im gon on Monday
evening In the abaence of the
werwary, Ruth McCabe. Pal Wright
filled the office There was much
discussion of several issues The An
nual meeting scheduled for Sunday.
October 2. was planned. The
speaker for the day will be George
M Rennet of Hemuston, a retired
Union Pacific employee who will
talk on the early railroads This is in
conjunction with the honor the group
is doing of the 100 yean that die
railroad has been in the county
Jean Nelson gave an interesting
report on the Oregon Trail and the
work being done to get it marked
throughout Morrow County and
especially to get the tourists in
terested in the area Robin Baker
from the office of tourism in lone
sponsors In pi to the sight on Satur
days The excursions are done with
the approval of the Navy and are
scheduled accordingly There are
also hooks, pamphlets, hats and tee
shirts available in the store It is on
Main Street near Bristows Market
and Swansons Insurance One might
find it worth while to stop in and gel
acquainted
A fine report was
heard concerning the Pioneer Picnic
which the group sponsored this year
It was brought to the groups atten
lion of die Sam Boardman Rest area
on the old highway It is thought to
he the first roadside rest area in
Oregon There is an eight sided
garebo there and trees It is hoped
that the society can get a sign and
help with fixing it up a bit for an al
traction for visitors
A fair booth committee was ap
pointed. Barbara Bloods worth. Pat
Wright, Sue Vinson and D orm
Graves The theme is Trail Day* and
Country Ways and the committee is
open to suggestions
Dorns Graves reported on the
calendar planned for the coming
year h is hoped dial this can be col
ored pictures of the various places
in the County. and some are Hard
man. cemetery at Valby Churvh
several of the Oregon Trail as seen
through the bombing range and first
graduation program of the Lexington
school, a winter scene and others.
These calenders will sell for more
than in previous years, due to the ex
pense of printing It was voted to
raise die dues to S3 per person, star
ting ui the year 1989 Lovely
refreshments were served by the
hosts Mr and Mrs Peck Present
were Mr and Mrs Harold Peck.

The group also watched a VCR
tape concerning construction of
Cascade Locks and Celilo Falls.

Patncia Anderson will visit this
lodge September 24. for the District
meeting Leila Palmer is Chairman
for die district meeting and is busy
with the plans for the day. A gift was
presented to sister Leila from the
group, honoring her for being
recommended as the District Depu
ty President.

resolutions sonic which called for
much discussion on the floor The
youth and Jr. Grangers work was
fine, and really interesting the many
things that they are doing The ses
sion will he at Enterprise the next
year, and the group there is most en
thusiastic about the session Others
going from this area were. Dot and
Lewis Halvorsen. Berl and Margaret
Akers. Norma and Bill Alford and
Barton Clark a member ol the Stale
Ag committee

children Melissa and Stephanie are
home from Hawaii visiting her
mother Betty Marquardt and other
relatives Clay plans to return to his
job on the Islands next week and
Lolita and the girls are planning on
staying another two weeks

Randy, Joyce, Trent and Jaclynn
