Locke Enterprises Inc acquired
the property a year ago and had
agreed to make a payment o f
$150.000 to the cay by July I. 1987
The LID was already in default with
additional payments on the bonds
coming due in October, 1987 and
April 1988
Locke Enterprises has paid only
$10.000 on April 19 o f this year and
the city has had to borrow to make
the bond payments In anticipation
that no further payments will be
received, the budget includes funds
to repay loans taken to date.
City Manager Larry Dairymple
said the city plans to borrow again
this (Xtoher and then include funds
in the next year s budget in repay the
loan That procedure would continue
for four more years until the bonds
are retired

Group tours Wasteck in Vancouver

About 40 people attended a
meeting in Vancouver, W a on
Thursday
sponsored by the
Tidewater barge Company, Wasteck
and Clark county The group left the
Port o f Morrow by bus. com
pliments o f the Morrow County Port
Commission. A lovely lunch was
served at the rest stop, then on to
Vancouver where the bus was met
at they Quay by Joe Tanner, who
acted as tour guide for the afternoon
The group visited in Portland at the
Wasteck business, where they saw
how paper recycling was done with
papers sorted and tied in bundles o f
2000 lbs ( I ton) each for shipping to
the Orient where it will be again
recycled and used for many pro
ducts Cardboard is tied into bundles
o f 1700 lbs and also shipped to the
Orient tor further use They ship
about 15,(XX) ton a year Glass is
sorted and goes to different locales
where it is recycled and used again

can he done, at the Morrow County
site, and explanations o f how the
building and maintenance o f solid
waste centers The group was driven
around V ancou ver to various
business sites, and told how they
came to settle in Vancouver A
bountiful buffet and social hour was
enjoyed later, and the group headed
for home about 7:30 p.m. It was a
most educational and pleasant day
Those going on the trip came away

reproductive capacity Many are
deep-rooted, so that even if their tops
are killed, they can regenerate from
root segments that remain viable

seed producers Most arc perennials
What this means, is that, no mat
ter how effective the control method,
if it is employed for only one season,
the weeds will be back in a year or
two, seemingly springing up from
nowhere Also, for really effective
control, we must deal with them on
a broad regional basismx just where
they 're easy to get at. but wherever
infestations are scattered in patches
over rough, inaccessible terrain

An entourage o f local businessmen
descended upon the Port o f Morrow
last week and urged the Port Com
mission to consider a tax levy to
keep the Lamb-West on ftench fry
plant in operation
Art Kegler. Boardman Mayor and
local grocer led the group in asking
for a committee o f Port Commis
sioners and businessmen to study the
levy request and other alternatives
John Prag. Boardman realtor, piedg
ed the local committee's support for
a tax levy if the Port were to propose
one
Acquired by Lamb- Weston a year
ago. the Boardman french fry plant
is now one o f seven plants and
because o f higher production costs
at the Boardman plant, it is being us
ed as a "s w in g " plant That incans
the Boardman plant runs only as
sales require, while the other six
plants are running at capacity
Since last year, the Boardman
plant has laid o ff more than 4(X)
