Ambulance drivers Rusty Estes and Carl Launtsen took the
ambulance to Heppner Day Care last week to show the children
what the ambulance looks like and show them the equipment
inside, and how it works They were allowed to listen with the
stethoscope to each others hearts, much to their delight.
Don Cole presents a $30 savings bond to Mike Holloran of Hepp
ner for second place in the Eye Injury Prevention Poster Contest and
Brent Wright received a $50 bond for third place They were spon­
sored by the Heppncr Elks laxJgc. This was for the District contest

County Commissioner (R), Jerry
Anderson received 186 votes and
Jerry Peck received 98 vote* on the
Republican ballot.
A correction was also made in the
amount of votes for County Com­
missioner on the Democratic ballot

Jerry Peck received 636 votes and
Ted Sampson received 229

Kev in Tucker of Heppner has had
his manuscript chosen as one o f
twelve winners in this year’s Young
Writers Contest, sponsored by the
Oregon Arts Commission
He was awarded a week long
workshop, plus food and lodging, at
no cost to him He has prov ided his
own transportation to and from the
University of Oregon, where the
seminar is held
Around 100 fiction pieces were
submitted for this contest and only
twelve were chosen to receive an
award
president. Christy Stroehcr. treas­
urer. Mary VanBibbcr. secretary;
Jill Cobklin. business manager; Dina
Rui/. Head cheerleader, and Scott
Johnston. Publicity Director.
These officers attended a leader­
ship conference in Springfield on
May 15 and 16 where (hey learned
many new ideas for the upcoming
school year.
The officers were sworn in May
23 at a school assembly.
