Morrow County wins boy’s
team trophy for second time
The Morrow County Rodeo team
competed April 2 and 3 al the
Yamhill High School rodeo at
McMinnville ()nc hundred fifty -
four contestants competed on 15
teams
M ono» County won the Boys
team trophy with 54 points Second
place went to Jordan Valley with 39
points The Girl's team trophy went
to Redmond with 61 points and
Southern Cascade was second with
45 points
Mike Mahoney was Boy's All
Around for the second week in a
row Girl's All Around was Penns
Conforih of Redmond
Mike placed second in steer
wrestling, third in calf roping, sixth
in hoys cow cutting and tenth in team
nsping with Penny Conforih as his
partner
David Clark. Long Creek, com­
pel ing for Morrow County was first
in saddle bronc. and sixth in
bareback riding
Joe Ciwhkv Kimberly, was first in
boys cow cutting and fifth in team
roping
Also participating for Morrow
County was Michelle Papineau and
Libby Britt
Mustangs triumph over
Cougars

Heppner Mustangs triumphed
over the Echo Cougars in a
doubleheader at home on Friday.

In the opener. Heppner rallied in
the second inning with 5 runs Hcpp
ner had 9 base hits in the opening
game which brought coach Mark
Dowdy to say. ’"this is the first game
our hats showed some strength
Ruvs Britt hit a triple and Dick Devin
a double in the sixth inning to ensure
the win.
Russell Britt pitched a good game
giving up only 2 hits and struck out
12 Cougars The final score was
Mustangs 10 to Cougars 6
In the nightcap. Craig Angell and
Enc Connor sparked the bats for the
Mustangs Angell went 4 for 5 and
Connor 2 for 4 The Mustangs took
an early lead scoring 9 runs in the
first two innings which led to a win
of 16-6 Enc Connor pitched for the
Heppner Mustangs striking out 7
Cougar players Casey Pedro and
Scott Davis played good defense in
the outfield bringing down several
fly balls.
Mustang's League standing is 2 1
and over all 3-3.
They meet Riverside at home for
two. Saturday, April 16
Boys track team captures
two first place wins

Both the Heppner boys and girls
track teams took first place in the
five-way Board man meet last Tues­
day. April 5 in Boardman
Bryan Padberg won both the 800
meter and the 400 meter to help the
Mustangs pile up 86 points for first
place.
Jennifer Currin took first in both
the long jump and the 200 meter
dash to help the girls take first in the
meet with 72 points

the National Conservation Program
proposals has been designated. Apnl

posed program, but would especial
ly like public views on

came in first at the Morrow County
Invitational in Umatilla last Satur
day. April 9 The girls captured
fourth place
There were 21 schools attending
this competition which made it the
toughest meet of the year
Bryan Padberg took first place in
both the 1500 meter and 3000 meter
run breaking prev ious records while
Gene Lancaster took second in the
shot put Jason Dougherty placed se­
cond in both of his hurdle races to
help the team
Pie Heppner Track teams will
travel to Wahtonka on Tuesday and
also on Friday this week
