Talisman o f Sailors
Along the coast of the Northern Pacific, sea lions bask on rocks
jutting out of the ocean, sleeping in on a warm summer morning
Off the shores of Hawaii, a green-blue cleaner wrasse swims
toward a school of yellow tang On the east coast, near Plymouth
Rock, a group of tourists look out toward the sea The power of
the seas is gentle this morning, settling into tranquillity
The blue-green of the tranquil ocean is the color of the
aquamarine Considered a talisman by sailors, aquamarine car
ries the gentled power of the oceans Set with diamonds it takes
on the intensity of a crisp icy morning of polar waters, set in gold
it carries the warmth of the plump equatorial sun Aquamarine is
well suited to interesting design possibilities because it is available
in fine quality in larqe sizes
A new way of cutting colored gems, called the fantasy cut", has
been employed by notable designers to make very sepcial crea
tions An aquamarine may be faceted and polished on top in ways
you ve appreciated before The change is under the surface, like
currents in the ocean The cutter cuts into the stone from behind,
allowing light to refract in surprising ways Sometimes selected
for the centerstone of a pendant necklace, the fantasy cut is an
exciting new possibility for aquamarine
