The men from Heaven
A Time for Sharing
Taking time for Christmas
Doug Akoson. Pastor Christian Lite Center
Christmas ha', i ' and 'h*»old alwavs fv an important da> aixl lime in each
o f our liv e ' I'aiah *) h \avs " h K unto ii' a ih ild i ' horn which denote'
the hunun nature of Christ and goes on to say l nto u ' a Son i ' given
which denote' the divine njiure ot C hri't C h ri'i was very (*<d jnd very
man T h i' i ' the hirih which we celebrate at ( hri'im avihe hirth »»I our
Saviour and la*rd C h ri'i Je'U'
So many have taken the " C h ri'i out ol "C h ri'tn ia' and substituted
Him with an " X " They have made O tri'tn u v only a commercial holiday
and forgotten the true meaning of Christmas
I pray that we. a nation founded on ( kk I would gel back to having l h ri'l
in C hri't mav and there tore, celebrating the true meaning of ( hri'tn ia'
I pray that we a' a people would experience the true meaning ot Christmas
within each ot our heart' and live' so that we might have that peace within
which the Saviour Chri't Je'U' bring'
Thiv i ' a cpceial time ot soar also. when we need to acknowledge those
who are alone and nuni'tet to that need by taking the lime to 'hare a little
o f our liv e ' and lime with them We need also to use th i' lime to 'hare
with and grow closer to our loved one'
Have a verv spcvial C h ri'tn u ' th i' vear and nuke it a very special
C h ri'tn u ' lor thi we around you May God h ie " each at thi' 'pecul lime

Don Boyce. United M ethodist Church
The Christmas season finds us very busy with hustle and hustle as we
busily prepare lor Christmas l>ay Life can become very hectic as we take
the necessary time and clfort to prepare for the traditional celebration of
Christmas, the gift buying. Ihe card sending, the dinner preparations, the
traveling to distant cities, the tree decorating, the mailing o f packages, etc
In the midst ol our preparations wc might ask ourselves. " W ill we take
time lor Christmas?" If we wish l*» truly celebrate the birth of Christ we
will need to he as intentional in our "celebration" as wc are in our "prepara
lio n " for Christmas Here arc some suggestive ways in which we might
"Take Time for Christmas " I) Take time for prayer, silence, meditation
or rolled ion on Christnus We can take our example from Mary who
"pondered these things in her heart .“ 2) Attend a service of worship The
church of your choice is helping many prepare a room in their hearts for
the Christ Child Take the time to attend worship with your visiting fami
ly. friends and neighbors 3) Take time to say a word of prayer or grace
or thanks before you dcwHir the Christnus dinner l * t the children have
an opportunity to vay what they arc thankful for thiv Christmas If you are
alone, take a moment of silence to reflect upon the blessings that are yours
and arc so easily forgotten 4) Take lime to give something to someone
else, a gift, a smile, a "Thank You", an car to listen, a tear to share, a
hand to hold By giving of yourself to someone else you will discover the
beautiful miracle of Christnus
How will you take time for Christmas’ These thoughts arc only suggestive
What other ideas might you have ’ Hopefully by taking the time for Christmas
there will he room in our hearts to receive the gift of C Twist into our homes
and lives I leave with you these lines by Helen lo w ric Marshall, her gift
to us in poetry
This year I would keep Christnus
Would hold it fast and keep
This miracle of love within my heart.
Would let Us warm, life giving glow
Through all my being veep
T ill it becomes o f me a living part
This year I would keep Christnus.
Would have its guiding star
Ixad me toward the Christ Child and His way,
Would show that light to others
Who arc traveling from afar
And nuke each dav a blessed Christnus Day
Don Reiber. Heppner Seventh-D ay Adventist Church
A somewhat time tattered saying i ' Everyone complain' about the
weather, but nobody doe' anything about it It we adapt this to C h ri'tn u '.
we might come up w ith Many htxlv ' complain about the commercializing
o f C h ri'tn u '. but tew body« do anything about it
One commercial gimmick i ' to 'tart a C h ri'iitU ' account at a bank in
January and add to it eac h month How about Parting a "C h ri't account"
in January and add to it each month’ I hen next C h ri'tn u ' uw: it a ' you
think C hri't would u\e it. henefitting persons in real need (Not loo much
of our gilt giv mg i ' meeting a real need) Incidentally. thi' 'hould he above
and beyond the normal tithe' and ottering given lor religiouv and charitable
purpose'
Would thi' not be a step toward' pulling Christ back in Christmas ’ Who
knows* Ihe idea might even "snowball"
The glory of the Lord shone about
By Paul Ripley. First Christian Church
On the night ol Christ’' birth "the glorv ot the l ord shone about (the
shepherds!’ ’ (Lk 2
In like manner our lives are bathed in ihe radiance
o f heaven David affirmed. " Ihe I ord will lighten my darkness (II Sam
22:29). and Paul wrote. ’ ( mh I who commanded the light to shine out of
darkness, hath shined in our hearts" ill Cor 4 b> Christmas morning, when
the air is crisp with December's frost and a merry sparkle is in the trees,
starlighted with a million gleams gathered troin the sun |ust looking over
the hills ol Heppner and brightening the frozen dew Our town is tlixxlcd
with gilded beams that build a stairwav with gentle slope across the plains
and up to the door step ot heaven, where there is a rush ol glories that da/
zle. and a maze ot beauties that bewilders, and a witchery ot magnificence
that confounds the imagination while thrilling and throbbing the heart with
adoration and ecstasy It must have been such a morning that awakened
the Judean hills and set all nature singing, and the music ot heaven to play
mg. and the pulse ot universal joy to throbbing, when the Christ was horn
It must have been such a morning when, alter the star choristers had hush
cd their acclaims, and the angels ot the annunicalion had left the startled
shepherds on. and impatient wing, swept hack to the cradle of the newly-
bom Lord, that the glad news was scattered throughout the valleys, and
over the mounts and down the slopes, and across the Jordan "F o r unto
you is bom this day. in the eitv ol David, a Saviour, which is Christ the
Lord **
Have a wonderful Christmas and a lovinii New Year

The town o f Jesus’ origin was the slum, the ghetto ol his land His parents
were plagued with problems from the onset ot conception His mother was
forced to make an extremely difficult trip at lull term pregnancy She gave
hirth far from anything warmly familiar in the rudest ol settings The
delivery room lett much to ho desired, and her child started his hie under
threat of death This enure story has powerful overtones o f crucifixion
The Christmas story is tar front a comfortable one. yet it is comforting
Nor is it pretty, as we often envision it vet it is spectacular in its majesty
The trials ol the Holy fam ily were monumental, yet they prevailed solely
through faith and courage they were alone with (»od There was no other
support, and it was only through trial that they came ultimately to resur
rection Christmas and faster are inseparable in the < hristian faith story
and in all of our stories As we go through the tue. we find the faith in
God essential to ultimate wholeness u one nient with the Divine in which
there is no end This is the powerful message and sacred legacy that came
out of Nazareth

Father Tony Bullman All Satnts Episcopal C hurch
Tha M an From H eaven
"The word becam e flesh and lived for awhile am ong us. we have
seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son. who cam e from
the Father, full of grace and truth " (John 1 14)
W e have seen His glory Five words with staggering implications
W hat is God like? How can an infinite and holy G od reveal Him self
to (mite and sinful man? The greatest thinkers of the world have been
grappling with questions like this for over 3 0 0 0 years, without
reaching any final conclusions
The Old Testam ent Prophets spoke about what G od was like, but
when Jesus cam e down from heaven and was m ade man. He reveal
ed God so perfectly that H e is described as "T h e im age of the in
visible God " (Colossians 1:15) “ The radiance ot G o d 's glory and
the exact representation of His being " (H ebrew s 1 3) W hen the
disciples w anted to be quite sure about G od. Philip said to the Lord.
“ Show us the Father, and that will be enough for us " (John 14 8)
And Jesus replied "Anyone who has seen me. has seen the Father"
(John 14 9)
W e hear so much about communication problems these days God
solved the problem perfectly W hat could be more m eaningful than
the birth of a baby-growing info boyhood and m anhood, sharing love
and com passion, knowing loneliness and hatred, suffering pain and
agony and finally death? He ate. drank, slept, w alked W as weary,
sorrowful, rejoicing. He wepf and He laughed H e knew hunger and
thirst and sweat He talked. H e toiled. H e prayed, so that there was
no difference betw een Him and other m en save only this, that H e
was G od and had no sin D ear friends, that is what Christm as is all
