Teams of students from Riverside
High School. Heppner High School
and Heppner Junior High competed
in a grueling test o f academic pro
wess December 2 in the National
Know ledge M aster Open, an
academic competition involving hum
dreds o f schools across the nation
The local teams were quite pleas
ed with their scores. Riverside and
Heppner placed 7th and 8th in
Oregon, just behind Hcrmiston
Heppner High was 18th o f 22 teams
last spring and improved to 8th o f
16. ahead o f many schools with
much larger enrollments Heppner
Junior High School scored 9N more
points and improved three places in
the standings to 13th place River
side scored 1128, Heppner High
scored 1063, and Heppner Junior
High scored 831.
The contest was run on Apple II
computers which tallied the students’
scores based on speed and accuracy.
The computers allow all schools the
opportunity to compete in a national
academic contest without the ex
pense o f traveling to a central site.
