Negotiations between Morrow
Cininty and ihe mad department
employees have broken down The
county commits toners have rejected
Ihe factfinder report that would give
employees a 3% raise in 1987. even
though the commissioners voted
themselves a 235t raise in 1987
Also, the county commissioners
have refused to meet face to face
with ihe employees Instead, they
have paid about $8,000 to a Salem
attorney to deal with the empkiyccs
If (hat money had been spent on
wages for Morrow County workers,
the contract would be settled now
Citizens of Morrow County could
help avoid a crisis by calling the
commission and asking them to set
tle this contract

To ihe Editor
There is a problem in the Morrow
County Road Department
Morrpw County residents should
know that the county budget has
45.MW for wage increases for
workers in the mad department This
budget was passed by a vote of the
people
Die rna3 workers have accepted
a factfinder report that would pro
vide a wage ipc-reagr- eciMtug the
ernunty only S-HT'/iO. The county
commisMunas have refused to ac
cept that report, and want the
employees to take a 2% raise The
county commissioners have not said
why they are being so unreasonable,
and have refused to meet face to face
with the employees Maybe it’s
because they gave themselves a 23%
raise this year
The employees want to avoid a
strike on the contract Please call the
tommisMoners and ask them in meet
vyith the employees and settle this
problem.

of Morrow County what is going on

esamplc. an equipment operator in
Morrow County makes $1,546 per

Hood River $1,645; Wasco $1.821;

Union $1,737. and Wallowa $ 1.661.
The county budget, passed by the
people of Morrow County, has
$45,609 to give wage increases to
road workers The county commis
sioner's are refusing to give a 3%
raise recommended by the state fact
finder that would cost only 10,920
The employees have accepted this
factfinder report
These arc the same commissioners
that gave themselves a 23T raise this
year, making them the highest paid
commissioners in the counties listed
above
It's only fair that road department
employees receive the raise rccom
mended by the factfinder We need
your help Please call the commis
sioners and ask them to provide a
lair wage for the road department
employees.

In last week's article on Wilbur
Jackson, it was inadvertently
reported that he rides a red four-
wheeler It is blue w ith a red wagon
I got carried away with the season.
I guess Also it was not clear that
Wilbur is a member of the city coun

Most folks cither hunt alone or
with someone I have the worst of
both worlds. I hunt with my brother,
and he hunts with Don and Judy
Elk hunting is sort of an inslttu
tarn in Eastern Oregon And to some
extent I think elk hunters should he
institutionalized Take my brother
for example This year he showed up
with a brand new Remington model
7(JO m a 7 millimeter magnum
caliber with hand loaded ammo that

would knock a freight train off the

shot at a big bull the first day out. he
shot a grouse on the way back to camp Wc had |ust enough to kind

Judy went along, of course It was her granddad's cabin so we couldn't
say much She saw a couple of cows and went crazy screaming down
the hill to tell someone and we spent most of the second djy try ing to
find her rifle It was stuck in the crotch of a tree about 20 yards from
where I figured she first heard th»>sc old cows Don fixed the cracked
stock with some masking tape
I was glad to have Don along He knew the country like the hack of
my hand He put Jerry and I on a long down hill drive and when I got
lost, there Don was driving the road to pick me up Jerry hitched a ride
with some other hunters and we all talked them into guiding us back
to the cabin Don still thinks ol' granddad moved it over a couple of
canyons
Nobody shot any elk But it was a good hunt, anyway Wc hunted
hard and went to bed early Got up early and hunted hard We ate well,
drank everything and even played a little pinochle I was awful proud
of the pictures of the sunrise I took, except I forgot my camera at lion's
and it got broken when he shipped it back
Altogether it was a great time Especially the warm shower and thick
beef steak Francic had waiting when I got home
It was inadvertently omitted from
last week’s paper (hat Buzz Lynch
donated the space where the town
Christmas tree is located this year
Sorry Buzz, for this error
