On Friday the 13th. Wright and
Bailey went to the American Royal
Rodeo and also listened to a western
group performing in concert at the
Rodeo The name of the group was
thr Svscat Means of the Rodeo".
Both Wright and Bailey said they
met a lot of people and had lots of
fun Both said they would like to at
tend next year's convention
On November 10. two area high
school FFA members left for Kan
tas City. Missouri to join 22.000
Other FFA members from across the
States to attend the bOth National
FFA Convention
Nance Wright and Nancy Bailey,
of the Heppncr FFA Chapter were
selected to go to the convention for
four days In those four da>s. they
attended speaking seminars in which
they listened to Robert Dole and Lee
lacocca speak on be-half of the FFA

Force basic training at Lackland Air
Force Base. Texas
During the six weeks of training
the airman studied the Air Force

and received special training in

The Fair Committee is calling a
meeting on Tuesday. December I at
2 p m at the fairgrounds The Fair
Committee would like to invite each
and every Fair Superintendent to at
tend this meeting Plans will begin
on the 1988 Premium Book and
several changes will be necessary to
update the book.
The Fair Committee is aware that
some of the superintendents prefer
daylight meetings, yet others must
work, so a repeat meeting at 7 p m
is planned for those people.

large, red ribbon bow, pine cones
and several ornaments Ihey will
sell for SI0 and arc to be picked up
at the Artifactory Door swags of the
same materials will sell for $8.
There will be some attractive table
pieces for sale that day.
Those pervms who wish to make
their own evergreen ornaments may
come to the Greens Workshop dur
ing Artifactory hours at the county
fairgrounds where they may pur
chase all the things they will need to
pul their wreaths or swags together,
including wire, ribbon bows, and
trimmings at very nominal prices

own green ornaments arc alerted to
bnng along garden clippers and
gloves If they have wire wreath
bases, wrapping wire, ribbons and
ornaments they have used before,

As another of its several signifi

ner Garden Club provides the
greenery cones, workspace and
some guidance for individuals Folks
are encouraged to come early on

ment Plan The forest will he manag
ed for the next 10 to 15 years as
directed by the final plan. Timber
harvest, big game habitat manage
ment. range and recreation are some
of the many uses that will be af
fected Therefore, it is important that
forest users make known their
desires on how the forest should be
used Public input is needed and en
couraged Be sure to be there if you
have questions or concerns on how
the Umatilla National Forest is go
ing to be managed for the next 10 to
15 years

host an open house on Tuesday.

The Heppner Garden Club's an
nual greens workshop is an establish
ed feature each first Saturday in
December during the Artifactory At
the club’» November meeting.
November 17. in the home of Gladys
Jewell, workshop committees were
announced and work assignments
were given out following a talk by
County Agent Fred l.undin
Lundin spoke about composting,
the using of organic mulches to im
prove gardens He stressed that a
good mulch can reduce soil packing,
surpress weeds and keep soil moist
and better regulated He encourag
ed questions and gave out Extension
Service bulletins which contain
many facts about building bins for
compost and handling and applying
compost snd also using pluvtic
coverings to improve gardening
Martha Doherty, garden club
president, stressed that help will be
needed through December 5 This
year daytime and evening work
meetings will take place in the Hepp
ner Fireman's Hall on the comer of
West Willow and Gale Streets
County residents who w ish to have
a wreath or swag made by the
gardeners should place an order
