Grousers made a small profit fiscal
year 1987. despite poor economic
conditions, co-op Manager Larry
Mills told the annual mreting Mon
day night
M.C G G made S6.574 in 1987.
on sales of S23.947,976 This com
pares ssith a profit of just over
V48.000 on sales of S23.553.780 in
1986
The drop in profit was blamed on
acreage going into the conservation
reserve program la federal program
which reduces the amount of acres
farmed in the county!, a program
which caused a decrease in demand
for farm equipment sold and the
amount of what handled by the
co-op
Mills said the co-op did well to re
main profitable "We felt we made
some progress in moving the com
pany in line with the economic con
ditions of today.” he said
He pointed to brighter spots on the
farm horizon such as record wheat
yields in the county. impmscmcnt in
wheat pnees. and gains in the cattle
market “ These arc all reasons for
optimism.” Mills said

Insulate your meter for the winter months. You
may use gunny sacks, insulation, rags, etc. in a
plastic bag. PLEASE DO NOT USE SAWDUST OR
BARK. If you have had frozen pipes in the past, it
is advisable to let a faucet run at a fast drip during
extremely cold weather.! Any damages resulting
from frozen water meters that have not been in
sulated w ill be repaired at the owner's expense. You
w ill be billed a minimum until the meters are read
again in mid-March.
Please avoid putting rubber and plastic items,
oil, grease, etc. into our sewer system. These items
clog the sewer lines causing sewage to ba< k up,
perhaps into your home.

Moscow. Idaho, daughter of Levi
and Alma Marlatt Morgan
On Sept 2. 1951. she married J
Crockett Sprouls at Goldcndale.

riage. the couple moved to Condon
nhere Sprouls was employed by the
State Highway Department That
work look them to Adel. HixxJ River
and The Dalles before they return
cd to Condon in 1973.
Survivors include her husband, at
the home, daughter, Connie L.
Brown of Roseburg, son, Marvin C
Massey, Mt Angel, stepdaughter,
Janet Phillips of Condon, sisters
Harriet Evans and Ellen Campbell,
both of Heppner. seven grand
children
and

great grandchildren

the Smithsonian Institute, who
wanted to inters less Karen regarding
her sighting He was interested in
what stv saw what the meteor
sounded like and did she get any pic
lures Karen also received a call and
was interviewed over the phone by
Pine Mountain Observatory, Bend,
on O ctober 26. with questions rrgar
ding her MKhttng They arc try ing to
pinpoint the location of the meteor
and have interviewed 85 people in
regards to this sighting They arc
very interested in locating a piece of
the meteor as this is something not
easily acquired
On Wednesday. October 28. at
5:55 p.m . Karen also heard a scry
loud noise from her lookout on
Madison Butte She learned that this
was from the firing of Inter ballistic
missies from Vandenburg AFB
located in California

Madison Butte Lookout, where she
is the forestry lookout throughout the
summer What she actually was see
ing was a meteor from the meteor

know it at the time
