ABPE should managed with care this
fall to minimize the risk Research
and observations by the Department
of Rangeland Resources at Oregon
State University have provided ideas
for managment that successfully
reduce incidence of ABPh. says
Livestock Agent Bill Broderick
Check the summer range. If it is
generally dry with small areas of
green forage that have been closely
grazed, the cow herd may be precon
Jitioned to onset of the disease
Moving the cows to luxuriant
pasture can be expected to result in
occurrence of ABPE in one or two
weeks This can be prevented by
feeding hay to the cow herd (or graz
mg dry and abundant range forage)
before stocking them on luxuriant
fall pasture
If your herd has a history of ABPE
or you suspect the disease may oc
cur? in your herd, contact Broderick
at the extension office. 676 9642 for
