the restriction o f personal liberty
which this law impose« another
State sponsored invasion on in­
dividual choice and $50 fine Many

The thrust o f this referendum is to
stop the enforcement o f this law due
to take effect September 27, 1987.

nurse« in your community.
I am a representative o f diploma
nurses in Oregon to the Statewide
Master Planning Commission on
Nursing Education, a Slate Board o f
Nursing committee As such. I need
to hear from the diploma nurses in
your community in regard to the
Oregon State Board of Nursing's
position on entry into practice and
the delinialion o f roles for the two
levels of practice Ihe Board o f Nur
sing, in April, adopted the follow
mg position statement "T h e Oregon
State Board of Nursing supports
tw o levels o f nursing practice. The
baccalaureate of science degree in
nursing shall be required for entry
into professional nursing and the
associate degree in nursing shall be
required for entry into technical nur
sing An implementation plan w ill be
developed to ensure an orderly Iran
sition by 1991 "
Additionally, it is proposed that
diploma nurses be grandfathered as
associate degree nurses permitted to
function in technical nursing
Transition into higher degree
states and how current jobs status
would be affected are two issues that
have been raised to me already It

tee. and I attended the Oregon
Tourism Council meeting in John
Day. August ft This was the first
lime the governor appointed council
had met in the eastern part o f the
state.
The Tourism Council is involved
with appropriation o f funds, as well
as tounsm direction, and acts as a
liaison between the G overn or,
tounsm division staff, and the in­
dustry It is a nine member group,
«even o f whom were in attendance
Our representative felt the coun­
cil was taking a fair look al the
eastern part o f the state and that they
will fairly consider all the facts
hefore suggesting appntpriaoons for
the S2 million allotcd for tourism
promotion The agenda was discus­
sion on development o f state wide
marketing One o f ihe committee's
repeated concerns was our lack o f
road signs W’c were glad they notic­
ed There's nothing like bringing ihe
western part of the state here so they
can better understand our problems
