Kinzua Corporation owns 175,000 acres
of timberland in five Eastern Oregon Coun
ties. The Company also purchases timber
from the U.S. Forest Service and private
.landowners. Sixty-eight people are
employed in logging and log hauling con
tract operations for Kinzua. This represents
an annual payroll of $4,100,000.

Kinzua operates a chip reload facility fo r
Longview Fibre Corporation in Boardman.
At Boardman Kinzua employs five people
and unloads an average of 45 truckloads
per day. In the past 12 months there were
*117,916 bone dry units of chips unloaded,
which equals over 9,500 trucks or 124
barges of chips.

The co-generation plant at Kinzua in
Heppner which went into operation
January, 1985, produces 71,500,000
kilowats of electricity. Fuel for the plant
comes from chipped wood waste of the
forest. The electricity is sold to P.G.E. and
represents enough power to supply a town
the size of Heppner with electricity. The co
generation plant employs ten people.
