Talent contest
added to fair
The Morrow County Fair is spon­
soring an Amateur Talent Contest
this year The contest w ill be held
on Wednesday evening. August 19
at 7 p m at Ihc fairgrounds Several
ulent instructors as well as music
teachers have been notified about the
Contest to help organize it and alert
their students to enter
The contest w ill have four age
categories six and under; 7-12;
13 17; and 18 and over and a special
category for small groups Many
clubs and organization* in Morrow
County have been contacted by (he
Fair Office to sponsor the contest
with cash awards in these age
categories The Fair is hoping for
community support in organizing the
talent contest this year.
The general rules and entry forms
w ill be circulated throughout the
County beginning August 13. The
C iazette Times and Boardman Enter
prise have an entry form printed in
them this week Various local stores
w ill have yellow entry forms as well
Please look for those yellow entry
forms and enter the contest The
contest is open to individual per
former* or small groups The talent
acts w ill have time limits placed on
them o f six minutes or less A pre
audition is planned prior to August
19 if 30 or more entries are receiv­
ed Anyone can enter; musical
numbers, dance routines, tumbling,
lip sync and other form* of ulent arc
acceptable

came the farthest, from the coast o f
Mexico where they live on their
sailboat Spec ial guest at the reunion,

Jones, the class's fourth grade
teacher The class plans a 45-ycar
reunion for mid June. 1992

plans to travel

After working as chairman o f the
Senior C iti/cn Rummage sale held
last Saturday, former Morrow Coun­
ty Judge Paul Jones said it was time
to do what he had retired to do and
he was going to get on the road again
for a while
He and his wife Blanche are tak
ing their travel trailer, with his sister
Lois Graybel as guest, on a two
month tour o f Alaska They intend
to cover all the major cities and
travel extensively in the northern
state for two months They w ill
travel up the Alkan Highway, which
he said has been greatly improved
On their return they w ill only be
in Heppner about two weeks before
they plan on taking o ff again They
w ill be taking the trailer to Indiana
where they w ill visit Jones' sister.
Loma. and her husband. Ira Chal
fant. at Morriston Ruby Beckett,
formerly o f Heppner. lives about
100 miles from there and they w ill
also visit with her
From there (hey w ill go to
Marion. Noph Carolina, where they
w ill visit Mrs Jones' granddaughter
and husband, Kathy and John Hed-
man. both fo rm e r Heppner
residents Jones said his grandfather
came to Oregon from Marion and he
was going to spend some time sec
ing if he could find relatives there
Their return w ill be through the
Southern states They w ill also visit
frie n d s, and form er Heppner
residents, in the Phoenix, Arizona
area.

Rudy Bergstrom of Heppner has
been acknowledged by incoming
Grand Exalted Ruler Ted Callicott.

hope to implement through a
Downtown Focus Group This
Focus Group would consist o f a
variety o f people, young and old
from within our town and outlying
areas It s purpose would be to build
bridges, discover how everyone
feels about our town, things that feel
good about Heppner and things (hat
are not so go*xJ, creative events with
a focus on knowing our neighbors,
etc It's wide open and so exciting
This town is ours, let's treat it like
a good friend
Heppner needs a pal on the back
We viewed many slides from across
the U S and we're looking good
with our improvements There were
17 states represented and seven
Canadian provinces with a total o f
120 in attendance Drop by the
Chamber Office on Tuesdays to
share ideas and look at materials, or
visit with Joyce Consider becoming
a part of the Downtown Focus
Group It w ill be fun. it w ill be
rewarding, and a very little bit o f
change makes a world of difference

Club sponsored an over night trail
ride last weekend Thirteen hardy
souls showed up and had a lot o f tun
and at least one good belly laugh

until fair, the Two-Trackers w ill
meet Thursday evenings at 7 p in at
the fairgrounds Club members w ill
concentrate on getting ready tor the

July 8 for a regular meeting
Helen Martin reported on the
meeting o f Oregon State Federation
o f Garden Clubs in Salem on June
14-17 The lone Club received
awards in the junior contests, year­
book and wild flower slides d iv i­
sions She announced that the
Oregon I egislature passed a bill to
set aside the first full week in June
as Garden Week Delegates were
taken on tours of the Thomas Kay
Museum. Bush House and Deep
wood which are all historical sues

spearheading plans lor the Flower
Show at the Morrow County Fair
and discussed the need for everyone

week on the Tidewater Barge Line

waste from the Willamette Valley
The court w ill take up the subject
in a court session at 10 a m
Wednesday in the North Morrow
County Annex in Im gon A con­

to enter the second session o f swim­
ming lessons at Heppner municipal
pool. Marshall laivgren said Mon
day. The second session starts Tues­
day. July 21.
Beginners class is filled already,
hut there is room for additional kids
in intermediate, advanced beginners,
and swimmers classes
Swimmers instruction w ill be at
the Heppner Pool from 8 to 8:45
