Although brother Jack and I spent
only six years in Hcppnct living al
grandmother's house, it remains the
home ol our hearts. A kaleidoscope
of memories Hood back at the

of the Hcppner Rodeo and dances,
our great band and Hamid Buhman.

plays and the prom It was a special
time in a «mail town of rural Oregon
during the great depression, hut
babysitting, selling magazine
subscriptions and passing out
handbills kept me financially afloat,
and provided Saturday night movie
money The tun shared with many
neat friends, tally pulls, harvest time
on ranches, trips to the Blues, parish
hall, Elks and school dances, era/)
Halloweens, parties at the Wilsons,
and horseback riding
The great teachers who became

Peasy, Aldcn Blankenship, to name
u few. made our schooldays
memorable and lun

and Carrie Vaughn, and her parents,
the Allisons, had a donated Land
Claim to homestead and raise wheat

trek to the Blues through their pro­
perly live Allisons and Vaughns arc
buried in the Hcppner cemetery.
Mother. Muriel Cason, was bom in
lone in 1982 and her parents. Walter
and Sarah Hale Cason are buried in
the lone cemetery Mother's grand
mother was Mary Marsh Cason,
child survivor of the Whitman
Massacre, who with her husband
James, ranched in Cason Canyon
During t>ur lives we have seen the
growih of aviation from the tran­
satlantic flight of Charles Lindbergh,
to satellites and space exploration,
and |umho icls to transport us
throughout the world, hydroelectric
power the wonder of Bonneville
(and loss of Cclilo J ails), to atomic
power and the nuclear age What a
great distance the world has moved
from the simple and tranquil days of
growing up in Hcppner
