Heppner High School held its an­
nual spring sports dessert last Tues­
day night to honor all athletes who
participated in base hull. golf, and
track
G o lf coach John Fdmundvin
started the evening by presenting
golf awards Medalist for the boys
golf team was junior [>an Struthers
and girls medalist was junior Sheila
Piper Both Struthers and Piper were
their team's medalists a year ago as
well Struthers and Piper were also
the team's only three year letter
winners.

Club were Dan Struthers for the
boys and Sofi Struthers for the girls
Recognized for making the most
improvement over the course of the
season for the boys on the WCCC
course was W ill Martin while Benji
Pearson earned that award for the
girls.
Baseball coach Steve W icks
honored his team “ We had two
goals this season which was to finish
third in the Eastern Division (o f the
Columbia Basin Conference) and
place four on the all division
teams," he said "and we met both
goals.”
Ihe Mustangs were led by senior
second year Icttcrman John Kenny
who led the CBC with a 484 batting
average and was a first team all-
division designated hitter He also
received the team's "M ost Valuable
Player" and "Best H itte r" awards

Three Hcpner track athletes and
coach Dale Conklin w ill depart from
Portland this Sunday for a 10 day
lour in ihe Far Fast
Jason Dougherty. Jason Palmer,
and Kim Sager w ill join Conklin on
the Class " A A A " track team which
w ill lour China and Hong Kong with
Amateur Sports Development
The three athletes were responsi­
ble for raising money for the cost o f
the trip.
The 42 member, four coach team
w ill return to Portland on June 31
Dougherty, a junior this past
season, is a three year letterman in
track and has participated in the
Class " A " stale meet the last two
years
He holds the Heppner High School
sophomore and junior class records
in the TOO-meler intermediate
