Because of the distance from
available ambulance service to the
area, the committee recommended
an ambulance be placed in lone to
ensure service to Lexington from
lone and Heppner. and that the ap
propriate housing he provided for the

Heppner-lexington
The committee strongly recom
mended that immediate steps be
taken to reduce the operating costs
of Pioneer Memorial Hospital by the
existing hospital hoard including the
reduction of hospital beds from 12
to four with a corresponding increase
in the number of nursing home beds
The committee suggested the
balance of its recommendations be
funded by reducing the hospital's tax
requirements If that method should
prove unfeasible, the committee sug
gests the district board review the
status of the hospital for change to
an emergency center
The ad hoc committee did not
review the operations of the county
health nurse or mental health ser
vices, but did recommend examin
ing the possibility of including tlvvse
services in a county wide health
district
