of the farm economy, a reprrsen
tativc of the system told Oregon
wheat growers at their December
convention
But the good news is. the surplus
isn't diminishing as fast as predicted
by the federal government, and may

In 1985. the farm credit system
lost 52 5 billion, leaving a surplus

surplus
The system has been hurting in
jurt because the total volume of
outstanding loans is drojsping as
more borrowers arc jvuy ing off their
loans As a result, the delinquent
loans which arc not earning interest
for the system are nuking up a
larger and larger percentage of the
outstanding loans. Haslehucher said

declined 11 4 percent in the first nine
months ol this year, down to 5bl 8

strong borrowers to leave

the Congressional amendments
"don't change the basic equation, it
does defer the day we run out of
surplus "

in the Mustangs season opener
