Survey results in
The results of a recent Gazette-Times survey sent out
through the paper to our readers have come in, and the G-
T staff has been busy going over the responses
First of all I would like to thank all those who turned m
a questionnaire, your answers will help us decide what
direction the news in the paper should take, what our
readers feel is most important, and what they want to read
A newspaper's readers arc its most important assets, and
we will strive to bring the kind of news most people want
to read about their communities and this area
Now to the survey. We received 65 questionnaires hack,
and the answers were, to say the least, enlightening
We have found from reading over your responses that
people want more news about county government, more c i
ty news, more feature articles, more farm news and more
editorials.
More county news ranked number one on the requests,
and as such the Gazette-Times Editor Sandy Holtz will he
attending county court meetings every Wednesday on a
regular basis.
. In the city news department the Gazette has a regular
Hcppncr city reporter, Avon Melby, she will continue to
cover the Heppner city council and planning commission
The news editor makes regular contact with the lone and
Town o f Lexington councils to find out news there
In an effort to include more club news in the paper, we
arc also preparing a special form to send out to clubs in
the area. The form w ill aid clubs and organizations in get
ting their news into the paper If you belong to a club or
organization ltx>k for them coming s«x>n
In the feaTu?fcs department, we hope to have one per
month, dealing with farm issues or local people of interest
In the questionnaire we also asked if people felt news
coverage in the paper was correct or inaccurate, and if the
stories were clear or hard to understand Overall you rated
us high in both these categories, a score we at the paper
very much like to sec. since a newspaper's credibility and
readability are very. I will say it again, very important
Once again, we appreciate those who took the time to
turn in the questionnaire, and will use the information as
part o f our efforts to continue working to bring you a bet
tor (¡-T .
It was brought to our attention that more and more
homes and farms around the area are displaying the
American Flag I f you would like to fly a Hag outside
your home, farm or business, but do not have one, contact
any member o f your local V E W Ed Baker of the VEW
assures us they will be happy to order one for you. and
the price to show your patriotism is reasonable.
Do people coming through Heppner during this summer
tourist season, and soon to he hunting season, ask ques
tions you aren't able to answer? Send them up to the Coast
to Coast store. Cindy and C liff Green have agreed to have
then store named the tourist information center o f this
area They have installed a tourist info sign in front of the
building, and have county brochures and information,
directions etc. to give our visitors.

Concerned for day care center
To the Editor
A new business in Heppner is fac
ing closure due lo lack of support
Tedd) Bear Workshop has provid
ed working parents with excellent
child care Parents can he assured
their children are supervised, well-
cared for. and fed balanced meals in
a clean environmenl In addition,
children have the opportunity to
learn crafts, motor development
music, and social skills from caring
professionals
Tedd) Bears Workshop is the on
ly licensed facility in our area If
more people took advantage of the
day care center's services it might
not need to close
It would be a shame to lose it
