Court forms transportation committee
Senior and handicapped citizens in
Morrow County may have an im
proved public transportation system
in the near future
Morrow County Court has recent
ly appointed a 12 member commiv
vion and has provided funds for a
temporary secretary.
The commission will deiemune it
there is sufficient public support and
ridership for a transportation system
in Morrow County and map out ten
lative routes and methods for im
plementing ihc system
Capital assistance is available tor
transportation systems benefiting
elderly and handicapped, Denny
Moore. administrator of the Oregon
Public Transit Disision has said, a
"federally tinkled program provides
money tor equipment purchases to
private nonprofit organizations that
serve the transit m-cds of elderly and
handicapped persons State funds.

The saddle will he presented during the Sunday
afternoon Morrow County Rodeo to the amateur
calf-roping winner
Kinzua began donating a hand Untied saddle in
1950 and have continued encouraging amateur call
ropers by donating a saddle each year since This
year and the past several years, the saddle has been
made by Severe Brothers

The sealer, known as "Dust Off"
was applied three different ways on
a four mile section of the gravel
road The product is supposed to
make gravel roads hard and prevent
dust, the county also will test its use
on different soil types Anticipated
cost of the product is $2.500 per

she is attending as the county's
representative
"H e’s a big pet and will never he
sold." the 19 year old queen said
But he's had experience.too, serving
as her offic ial mount during the I9H4
fair and rodeo season when she was
a princess on the Morrow County

The personable queen explained
that Chiel Shatka has hern a member
of the family for nine years and has
had extensive experience as a show
horse.
She has competed on the Nor
thwest Appaloosa horse show circuit
in Hnglish and Western equitation
and in jumping She was the 1983
Northwest Champion Youth which
qualified her to compete at the 1983
national appaloosa show She made
the final classes there, hut modestly
admits that she won "nothing big "
Queen Dawn was also a 1982
princess for the Oregon Trail Ap
paloosa Club With Chiel Shatka of
fictally retired, she is training
another horse that is now a year old
and 14 3 hands, "so he will he big,"
she almost sparkles as she talks "I
have high hopes for him I can't wait
to jump again "
Besides showing horses, her hob
hies include sports, riding, and in
structing riding She has heen both
a junior and teen 4 H leader and is
now in the process of trying to get
her judge's card
Her mam interests, she says are
horses and medicine She has just
finished her Freshman year of pre
veterinary studies at Oregon State
University and this summer is work
mg as a technician at the Hcrnusinn
Veterinary Clinic She hopes to do
volunteer veterinary work during the
next school year to keep current with
animal medicines and diseases She
needs 300 hours of clinical ex­
perience to enter veterinary school
She began riding when she lived
in Portland, she relates A neighbor
who was older"was being nice and
asked me to go along with her I was
about seven I called my mom from
the bums and told her that I had sign
cd up for riding lessons and could
she please go along with me
She learned to ride English and
then when her family moved to St
Helens a neighbor knew Western
ruling, so she learned from them and
they learned Fnglish from her
The daughter of Bryan and Sharon
Timm*. Queen Dawn has lived with
her family in Irrigon tor nine years
The 1983 Riverside High School
graduate has a 14-year-old brother.

played volleyball, basketball and ten
nix while she was in high schtail She
wax a member of 4 H horse and
cooking clubs for nine years She
won grand champion horse for four
years and reserve champion master
showman honors for three years
This year's court outfits arc dif­
ferent. the elegant queen says, but
it’s time for a change "Everybody
changes their wardrobes for the
times, so courts must change, too ”
Queen Dawn is looking forward to
the fair and rodeo and a chance to
get out and meet the people she and
the princesses have been represen­
ting all season
