way home from a two month trip to
Minnesota where Doris’ family had
a reunion of 10 brothers and sisters

children were there to help Ed and
Dtiris celebrate their 49th wedding
anniversary They left for home
today.
Word has been received that
Eric Connor has been moved from
Walla Waila to Pendleton to his
sister's home His mother is stay ing
with him.
- Mrs Virginia Rosewall is mov­
ing to Pendleton this week to the
CamLu Apartments Mrs Garnet
Huddleston had a group of friends
in her honor this Saturday We wish
her die best of everything in her new
location The Rosewall* have been
a pan of Heppner for many years
They had a garage and automobile
dealership on the o*mer of May and
Main streets for many years

Mrs l.uella Harris. Mike and
Amber Vejreska. went to Albany to
help Mrs Harris's father celebrate
his 94th birthday He drives his own
car. does his own housework and is
generally very active The party was
held at Mrs Harris' sister's home
There were four generations present,
with her father. Mrs Hams, her
son. Mike, and his daughter.
Amber On their way to Albany they
stopped at Bonneville at the new
visitor's center and hatchery The
huge sturgeon is still there and has
been for years
- -The TOPS Club met and made
final plans for the fourth annual
Rodeo Parade Breakfast on Saturday
Aug 16 at the City Park It is open
to the public.

Beautician retires

One of Heppner s veteran profes­
sional beauticians, Charlene Isom,
has been forced to retire because of
health problems
She has worked since 1936 when
she served as an apprentice in
Umatilla and Hermiston After she
qualified for her license she operated
shops of her own She returned for
more training at Sty ling Schix>l in the
early 1950s and then ran her shop at
E-nterprisc until she moved to Echo
in the early 1970s She stayed there
a little over a year and came to
Heppner in 1973 where stie was
been working in Lois Winchester’s
Shop for the past 13 years
She presently intends to continue
to live in Heppner
lone Garden Club selected the
yard of Mane and Jim Rudisill at the
end of " D " street for the August
Yard of the Month Their colorful
yard cannot he seen very well from
Third Street They have well-cared
for gladiolas. dahlias. Iiatns. calen
dula and roses blooming around the
permnter of the east and south sides
of the apartment A draped rope
from short blocks of wood divides
the grass and the street New shrubs
are planted along the south side of
the green lawn Ncighforing trees
shade the area in early morning and
on hot evenings providing a restful
spot
The Rudisills have lived in this
apartment tor two years although
they have been in lone four years
Thev have two daughters, Angie and
Candi. who attend lone High
School Jim is an employee of
Dohvn's Pest Control and Marie is

operate a motel and restaurant there

lone, received the General Ralph
Haines award for outstanding student
research after completing a six-
month Sergeant Major training
school at Eort Bliss, Texas The
“ most prestiguHis award" available
at the academy was presented for
Crabtree's work on a thesis he was
required to complete at the school,
a family member reported
He was also promoted to Sergeant
Ma|or upon completion of the
school
Crabtree was one of 11 National
Guardsmen from among 3h0 l' S
applicants chosen to attend the
academy and was the only guard
