Wallace (better known as Mike)
Matthews o f lone has heen selected
as Grand Marshal of the 1986 Mor
row County Fair and Rodeo Parade
Mike is a longtime resident of
Morrow County Ife has lised in and
around lone since 1927 when he
came Irom Kosehurg to work in the
wheat harvest and decided to stay
Mike and Kdith Hly were married
in 1911 They will celebrate their
55lh anniversary in October They
hase twin daughters Deniece. who
teaches at Stanfield High School and
Hemiecc Thornton, who is a spec lal
education assistant for the Salem
School District. They have two
grandchildren. Mike and Kccly
Before hi* retirement in 1972.
Mike was an employee of Morrow
County School District as custodian
and bus driver at lone High School
This was a |ob that he really enjoyed
because o f the involvement with
kid* He i* still an avid sports Ian
and supporter of the lone School*
He also enjoys attending athletic
event* involving other schools and
groups in the county If there i* a
sporting event going on within many
miles of lone. Mike will he there
Prior to M ike's going to work for
the school, hr worked on wheat and
cattle ranches in the area He manag
ed the Gibber! Ranch south of lone
for 18 year*
Mike is a lifetime member of the
Wranglers Horse Club He was
president for one year He especial
ly enjoyed 1967 and 68 when his
daughter. Bem iece. was Princess
and then Queen o f the Morrow
County Fair and Rodeo
Today Mike spends time attending
school and community events He
also enjoys walking amund town and
visiting with his many friends
Mike is looking forward to the
parade and rodeo this month and
hopes to see a lot of people there
