An August 21 wedding is planned at the Gerald Peck home and garden
in Boardnuin
The bride elect is a 1984 graduate ol Pendleton High School and is
currently a student at Blue Ml Community College in Pendleton She
is employed part time at K Mart
Hie bridegroom elect is a 1910 graduate of Kisersidse High School,
a student at Blue Ml Community College, and is employed part time
at Godfather's

Jay Dewitt Ball and Mary F.llen
(Johnson) Bull gathered at the lone
I egKin Hall on June 28, to renew ac
quaintances and love of family
heritage
J D and Mary Ball were early
Morrow County pioneers, settling in
the lone-Gooseberry area in the late
IHtkls He was born in IK*>r, ,»n,t
passed away in 190b Mary was
horn in I Hb I and died in 1906 Both
are buried in Washington state where
drey lived before moving to the Imre
area
Family members came front
Florida. Illinois, South Carolina,
Arizona, California, Washington,
Idaho and other areas of Oregon to
(oin the members of this pioneer
family who still reside in Morrow
County
Before the pot luck dinner was
served. Harry Owens, a son in law
of the late F.velyn (Ball) Farrens
gave the blessing

honored the special honorées, who
were scaled at the head table with the

only surviving child of J D and
Mary Ball, was presented a gift for
being the oldest family member pie
sent A special Hbth birthday cake
was presented to her as June 28 was
her birthday She remarked it made
her real proud to be the only living
member of the family of the 12
brothers and sistets which included,
Matthew. Hester. Fvelyn, Fdgar,
Fllen, Glenn, FImer. Roy, Archie,
Pearl, lew is and Gladys .Seven of
these i hildren chose Morrow County
as their permanent home, married
and raised their families here

knows the family originated in

American soil, was Francis Ball in

coast Many interesting facts were
discovered as she began tracing each
generation, one of which she found
a Major l.ibbeus Ball who was a
Revalutionary War Soldier at one
time a captain of the famous
Minutemen at Concord She has a
copy of his original military papers
from the U S Archives Also, she
discovered that among the famous
descendants of Franc is Ball were Sir
Winston Churchill and President
Grover Cleveland
Freda and Ed are still working on
the geneology of the family and will
eventually have a publication printed

can have a permanent record to
preserve
Another interesting fact brought
out m compiling the family statistics
show that each generation is tradi
(tonally carrying out the name of Jay
in the male members of the family
Hester (Ball) Akers descendants

mon and the Archie Ball family had
48 of which most reside in Oregon
The family agreed that in two
years there should be another reu
mon. as they had such a good time
visiting and brousing through tami
ly pictures and history, which were
brought by different family
members

One night the story was read and the host asked if vmieone would please
call in and tell a little more about Condon Before long the Condon Chief
of Police responded and willingly told the hundreds of thousands of listeners
about Condon's charms The radio host asked him seseral questions ''Is
there much crime in Condon? How many officers work with you'1" The
chief said there is very little crime and that he is the enure p>lice force
Asked what people do in Condon, he told of the good schools, the golf
course, the park and swimming p»»l. the county fair, the churches and lulges
and the asvirtment of businesses there He mentioned the little library and
spent some minutes telling about the hunting and Fishing in the mountains
south and cast of town
Has anyone learned if the advertising brought new families to Condon'

thony Hospital We know that our schools are very good We surely Find
all the merchants very friendly and always helpful
If everyone here really enthusiastically supported the merchants and al
the various community actismcs this town could prosper Look forward

pride in keeping the streets, homes and businesses looking attractive rhen
perhaps more folks would he attracted to Heppncr W'e don't forsee any
important industrial growih here, hut nothing is impossible if people feel
positive about themselves and their community and work together for het
ter growih
Having the Fillies bring home a state basketball championship surely
brought good publicity Fhe graduates of the county high schools seem to
he gaining more scholarships than ever The recent hack door bcautifica
lion efforts of seseral Main Street businesses are much admired Die latest

Wheel You need to take time to admire the old wood and artistic collet
lion of western desert items
Morrow County's Fair is just a month and a half awjy It s theme is "To
Morrow. Today". Let's all support this all-county happening le t's he proud
of the activities and displays there The Rodeo performances and the parade
arc expected to draw more participants and more spectators this year Die
many special contests need more contestants
Join the Heppner Chamber of Commerce, the Heppner Economic
Development Corp, the Heppner Merchants Committee and the Heppner
Garden Club and get busy working together in promoting this town Only
by cooperating, by demonstrating enthusiasm and pride will we all help
make Heppner shine and attract others here
