until June 2 for their wo«idcutting
outing reports the Forest Service's
Northwest region office
Wuxlvutters who gather firewood
on the I'matilla National Forest
began the job of lasing in next
winter's suppls of wmxJ May I with
the opening of the 19Mb Firewood
Season Wood permits went on sale
at Ranger District offices in Walla
Walla and l kiah. and at (ho Forest
Supers Ivor's Office in Pendleton
The season is delayed until Mas

official 1986 "O regon Apple-
Walnut Cake" recipe
1 The cake bjking contest will be­
held at the Morrow Counts fair and
cakes will be exhibited and judged
at fair
2 Contestants must be a resident
of the county in which he she enters
cups sifted cake flour
I cup cultured sour cream
I tablespoon vanilla
Powdered Sugar
Filling
Mix together
I cup finely chopped walnuts
1 cup peeled, diced apples
2 tablespoons brown sugar
I tablespoon cinnamon
Cream butter and sugar Add
eggs, one at a time, beating well
alter each one Sift dry ingredients
together Add alternately with sour
cream and vanilla mixture Put hjlt
of the batter in bottom of greased and
lightly floured 10" hundt pan Put
in tilling and cover with remaining
batter Bake al 330° for I hour Cool

Dust lightly with powdered sugar
No tilling should show on finished
