The Kev Brian McGovern. who
has been the priest at both St
Patrick s Catholic Church in Hep
pner and St W illiam 's in lone for
three years, will be leaving Morrow
County at the end of February
On Thursday evening. February
20. a large two-church farew ell
potluck dinner was held in the parish
hall
McGovern will be m oving to the
Puget Sound area where he will be
involved in social work with Catholic
agencies
His congregations and friends pre
sented him with a goodbye money
tree and with a spiritual bouquet He
conducted his last Sunday Mass
here on February 23
The new priest for St Patricks and
St W illiam 's parishes will be the
Kev Fdward Kececoni, O S H . who
is coming from St M artin's Bene
dictine Abbey, laicey. Washington
Kececoni will serve here until a
regularly appointed priest arrives in
July

was prepared and served by local
senior citizens who are working
toward gaining enough money for
the realization of a Senior Center
Building for south Morrow County
The cooking was done by Mel
Hammons and Kleanore Gonty. who
cook weekly on Mondays at the
senior mealsite Other senior volun
leers who worked on the breakfast
project were Paul and Blanche
Jones. Babe Harris. Phyllis Hunter.
Mary Goheen. Kd Dick, Mildred
Padberg, Camilla Samples. Irene
Swanson, and Justine Weatherford

She was honored in January as the
county Woman of the Y ear She
came to Heppner in 1939 as a high
school teacher taught in Pendleton
from 1941 to 1943. then went to
Yam hill County to serve as Home
D em on stration A gen t until she
married Norman Nelson in 1946 and
cam e here where she has lived at the
Nelson Ranch on Baseline Road for
40 years.

Kolen who has been involved with
research on infant vision, and plans
to do some eye screening in the
schools to belter acquaint himself
with the community, is m arried, his
wife's name is M argaret and they
have four children, two to six years

Dr Schaffitt recently announced
his retirement from optometry in
Heppner. after 34 years here
