He says that he scholarships he
has already won w ill help out a lot
with the first year of college, but he
also plans to work some to help with
expenses He has not done so yet.
but he expects also to apply for other
scholarships
Mdaiughlin has already been ac­
cepted for entrance next fall at
Oregon Stale University where he
plans to major in engineering

added this year to complement the
sheep dog show, and both w ill be
held at the fairgrounds, says contest

Green says that the H K D C will
tie continuing to work on changing
the Heppner Hotel to a retirement
facility although the program may
be slowed by the effects of the
Gramm Kudman hill

the development corporation's goals
for the coming year is to help out the
hospital board wherever the board
decides that their help is needed
Working to obtain an optometrist for
the area is another project which the
group w ill undertake
Formation of a park district is a
continuing goal the development
corporation has had

Me l-aughlin is the third member
of his fam ily to win an Klks scholar­
ship at the local level, but the first to
w in at the district level The son of
Mr and Mrs Bob McLaughlin at

His parents accompanied him to
last Sunday's district competition in
Pendleton As the district winner,
he rc< rived J.' hsi but is guaranteed
another $l.2txi from national fund
money and traxi state money at the
stale level of competition even if he
does not place there

said If it is not approved, we w ill
have to take another look If the
district is formed, the Board w ill
then lie in charge, but we will
continue to work with them for
awhile because we have put together
much of the background informa
tion

Collider siting committer although
they do not have any active involve
ment planned al this time. Green

fastest male and vemale in the 6 2
mile event and to the oldest male
and female participants overall
The pre registration deadline is
March 21 hut participants may
register for an additional fee the day
of the run However, to insure a
T shirt It is wise to pre register
Prices remain the same as last year

for the entry forms which w ill be
available in local stores soon
