are still »r a r in g casts and showing ruta and bruises from (alia they took
during our worse than usual foggy, icy »in te r which w r hopr is paat for
another 12 months
Along with other homeowners who hadn t finished raking leaves when that
aorarly Novem ber 10 snowfall made raking impossible, this is the first time
ever w r got at finishing the leaf raking in mid January and it was sure
about time
With the Annual Meeting of the Heppner Kconumic Development
Corporation, a goodly succession of annual gatherings has surely about
ended Attendance at several banquets and annual end o f the y ear or
ta-ginning of the year functions have kept county folks circulating These
community gatherings offer considerable information about what is
happening within various groups, promote friendships, encourage participa
lion and are really important functions in moat communities
Well now, SuperHowl Sunday has passed into history with the big Hears
really overpowering the Patriots W r have heard It said that a Hears victory
should prove bullish for the stock market and thus helpful to the American
economy Kveryone hopes that proves true
In Heppner sports fans are especially excited about the suprr playing of
Heppner High School's girls basketball team These talented Killies seem
beaded for another state tournament
Hecause in recent years there has been no special group to welcome new
residents to South Morrow, the im mediate past president of the Heppner
Morrow Chamber of Commerce. Doug Smith, promoted the chamber's
creation of a Welcome New com ers" coupon book These booklets are to be
distributed by the Heppner Soroptimists to the list of new residents furnished
by the Columbia Hasin Klectrtc Co op and others The chamber was told that
there are usually about lion newcomers who m ove into South Morrow during
each year The coupons are a good way of helping new residents get to know
the community A welcome letter, a map of Heppner, a list of churches and
information atxmt the schools and the hospital accompany the coupon hooks
These times when people have com e to realize that tourism is a valuable
business, assorted ways of publicizing various areas have bloomed The
formation of the new State of Kastern Oregon is a fine area effort It is
exciting that officers of this new state will be meeting in Heppner during St
1‘atrick's weekend, which has grown to be one of the most successful local
festivities The Chamber of Com merce the Merchants Committee and Jim
F arley's special com mittee are already working toward a logger than ever
festival Keep thinking "sunshine" for March IS. 16 and 17
How plrasm g it is to see an important group of our most knowledgeable
citizens, our pastors, being involved with community activity groups, such
as, the Senior Citizen Meulsite and m ore recently the Chamber of
Commerce Most of us know these church leuders are always helpful in
special tunes of joy or sorrow, but we aren't very well acquainted with the
whole fine group, the South Morrow Ministerial Association May 1966 see
our acquaintance w ith all of them flourish
A very recent letter from the manager of the Kilm and Video Division of
the state's Kconumic Development Department in Salem to the Chamber
of Com merce tells that members of this division will be attending the
American Klim Market IzM-utinn Kxpo H6 in Ian Angeles. February 23 25
This trade show will give us access to over 2.000 film industry decision
makers We hope to show them the beauty and diversity of our entire state,
convincing them to us<‘ Oregon as a location site " The letter asks for some
brochures from here 1 which were mailed to them last w e e k » Many of us feel
that our county is one of the most diversified areas of Oregon with its
mountains, forests, wheat land, cattle ranches, lakes and Columbia R iver
frontage
The state letter punts out that seven films have been made in Oregon, and
it closes with this sentence "Who knows the next m ovie may he shot in your
community "
As you dream of being a star or even an extra in a made in Morrow movie,
don't forget to “ T H IN K Sunshine" from now on
