retirement facilities exist A survey
has been done by Betty Miggon

for development of these facilities
Such a structure should draw from
the areas of Condon Fossil Spray,
Arlington and Kimberly, as well as
Meppner Islington. Boardman and
lone laical businesses draw from
an area of 55 miles on three sides A
retirement facility would draw from
an even larger area because no such
structure exists in an even wider
circle Many of the people living in
this area really prefer a rural
community
Meppner has every thing needed to
tie a desirable setting
a well
constructed, suitable building,
needing to be rehabilitated, and
enthusiastically supported hospital,
a good business district pros iding all
thr necessities, and now we have the
added flood control and recreational
possibilities of the Willow Creek
Dam
In addition we offer varied
hunting, and other fishing sites
available nearby
lleppner also maintains friendly
support systems for people in need
No one needs to get lost in the crowd
here I’eople from outside this area
who are in our community for any
length of lime always remark on the
open friendship and extended court
esies from any one they meet on the
streets as well as the business
people This spirit would be sn asset
to any retirement setting

In a third August 26 incident, the
Boardman Holice Department and
the Morrow County Sheriff's Office
arrested Bernadme B Hernandez.

However. I see no prospects of the
Meppner Hotel being rehabilitated
unless a private party does it And I
would like to do it I do not propose a
facility to warehouse dispirited
people I wish a nicely rehabilitated
cheery structure where interested
and interesting people can escape
the care and expense of maintaining
Iheir own homes
I would plan a
lobby recreation area, a commercial
area across the front of Main Street,
and hopefully a woodworking shop
avialable to the tenants
This
structure would be in walking dls
lance easily of the business district
and other facilitie. the tenants
would wish to visit
Feasibility studies have begun I
would want to use (he services of a
local architect who has already
completed historical rehabilitation
work, local everything wherever
possilbe in an effort to keep costa
down and to aid our local economies
The presence of these tenants 24
unites are a preliminary sketch'
would be a definite plus in keeping
our hospital going
Besides these
tenants, their relatives and visitors
would generate additional business
activity downtown And a rehabili
lated hotel would upgrade the whole
area
All of the above would be addition
to allowing retirees to this area to
comfortably stay in their own rural
community
