To (he Editor
As we spent the winter in the south
along with the rest of the snow birds
upon arriving home this week I
noted that Ned Clark was awarded
the Tree Farmer for Morrow County
this year, and wish I could have
attended the meeting with him
The people of this county do not
know what great effort and labor
this award entails thousands of
trees cut to thin the thickets, thous
ands of plots seeded to grass and
many new tree seedlings planted
with no hope, in our lifetime, of
renumeration
Congratulations. Ned. for your
effort and patriotism
I received
this same award three years ago and
the Chamber of Commerce here did
a miserable Job of awarding it NTT
mention of the many acreas thinned,
at great expense, no mention of the
23 .ouo trees planted by this family
which was a record of the state and
maybe for the nation What family
dug 23.oon holes in one spring
Patterson and I logged Bound
Mountain and I defy anyone to find
one skid roud or trail ori it We did it
for an example to show the rest of
the Willow Creek watershed could be
logged but the Cham tier of County
Court did nothing to get control of
that watershed
Now it is to be logged with five
clear cuts and nine miles of road
which means 18 miles of gutter to
help fill the new dam with mud
I offered to trade a ha If section up
at Basmuss for 420 acres on the
north slop«- of l.ittle Haldy and give
$100.000 to boot and d<-ed the 420 to
the county on condition that it never
lie logged and was turned down
