It was just one of those days for
the Heppner Mustangs baseball
squad last Tuesday night when
nothing went wrong for the River
side Pirates, and nothing went right
for the Mustangs
"It was just one of those games
where they could do no wrong and
we could do no right," said Coach
Mike Royer, "we just have to forget
about it and look ahead "
The barrage started in the first
inning and never let up throughout
the game Riverside scored five runs
in the first inning on two singles, a
double, and two walks given up by
pitcher Jim McConnell
No runs came across the plate in
the second inning, and thanks to
three errors and three hits in the
third, the Pirates led 8-0

meters for the first time this season,

and teammate Cathy Martin lower
ed her time by over 12 seconds to
collect second in the same race
The twosome teamed up again in
the 800 meters and. in a very strong
field, finished fourth and fifth with
Padberg edging the freshman Mar
tin as both turned in season's bests
of 2 39 9 and 2 40 2 respectively
The 400 meter relay team of
McEZlhany. Kim Sager. Padberg and
Payne ran 53 9 to gamer third place
and laina Reid turned in a personal
record in the 3.000 meters in 12 41 2
to give the locals another third place
finish that wrapped up their second
consecutive team title
The Heppner win was especially
unique in that the girls did not score
in any of the field events and did not
have entries in either the 4on meters
or mile relay due to two girls
quitting the squad during the week
Also competing but not placing
were Kerri Thompson who lowered
her time greatly in the high hurdle«
