Schedule changes slow Cal Poly Rodeo teams
Cancellation of the next two con
tests on the schedules of teams in the
National Intercollegiate Kixleo As
sociation's Western Region has Cal
Poly rodeo coach Ralph Kianda
worried
Thai s because he (ears that the
lack of compelilton over the next few
weeks will slow- the drive of his
men's and women's teams to regain
the form that saw them dominate
the regional and national standings
last year
Both the Lake San Antonio Rodeo
on Kriday and Saturday. March 9
and 10 . in Hradlev and a two-day
event that was to have Ixjrn held the
following weekend in the campus
arena at Cal Poly were cancelled
when scheduling problems caused
several Western Region teams to
withdraw
Also in jeopardy, according to
Kianda. is the next rodeo on the
region's schedule, which is presently
planm-d for Saturday and Sunday.

Welcome hack after a rather lengthy lay-off the sports world appear* to
have gotten by w ithout me for a few weeks
It's just about NCAA Tournament time, and we re right where everybody
said we'd be at the start of the seas«in w ith Georgetow n as the clear -cut top
choice to win it all A word of caution, however, strange things huppen to
"sure fire" teams
The Pac-10 may never get their champion sorted out Going into this
weekend, a five way tie for the title is still conceivable CSC leads the pack
with four losses, hut has to play Oregon and OSU tin LA' OSt has five
losses, and finish*-* on the road against CSC and l 'Cl.A Washington has five
losses, and finishes at home, versus Cal and Stanford Arizona has six losses
and plays ASl'. while UCLA has six losses and plays OSl! inl.A. and Oregon
in Kugene The temptation is to say "so and so has the easiest scheiiule.
e t c b u t the league has been too unpredictable to make any such
assertions
The Portland Breakers apparently drew a nice crowd in their home dehut,
and gave the home fans a nice 14 10 win over I-os Angeles I still don't like
the I'SKL and I think it will disintegrate, but now I have mixed («■eltngs
since they came to Portland I d like to s«*e pro sports flourish in Oregon
And yes. the Blazers are still considered pro sports, even after losing to
Golden State and Cleveland, back to hack Break up the Cavaliers
Back to the NCAA tourney, has anybody ever explained the method used
to grant automatic berths in the field of M teams" Many of the conferences
that get invited are very obscure, and seem to exist solely for the purpose of
getting a team into the field I.est you laugh at that idea a first round loser
in the NCAA takes home about »IMi.oou last yean When you consider that
most of th«*se conferences choose their representative in a post season
tournament 1 making the regular season a moot point' it becomes obvious
that a Marist. or North Carolina A A T. or Tow son State can stumble along
all season, w in a few in the conference tourney and head for the land of big
bucks Very strange
While everybody lines up to take pot shots at Doug Klutie off to a slow
start 1 ask yourself this question would you have taken the $7 million if
offerei! Silly question
If you listen real closely, you can hear the sound of spring training wafting
