Fillies trot past TigerScots in 42-38 contest Blf sky all‘

The Heppner Fillies knocked the
B«-ston McEwen TigerScots out of a
champ at the District Tournament
with a win of 42 38
The Fillips received the tip off to
start the name A fast pace vs as set
by both teams at the first of the

up their offense The Killies started
out the game in a full court press
falling back to a rone defense The
TigerScots look a quick lead but by
the end of the first quarter the Killies
had caught up
The Killies tried to force the ball
too much and ended up with a lot of
turnovers
The score » a s closing ending the
first, second and fourth quarters
with. at the most, a four point
spread At the end of the third
quarter the Killies took a lead of
seven points
As the game came closer to an end
the Killies were ahead and the

well from the line »hich took a little
pressure off them, and they went on
to win the game The final score was
42 38
Umatilla will play Kiverside in
Knday's first round, a loser out
contest Heppner will play Sherman
County in the other first round game
Friday at 7 p m A match up of the
Easl and VSest Division champions
in the Columbia Basin Conference
will be played at the Pendleton
armory If the Killies win Friday,
they 're on to Kegionals If they lose,
then they'll play again Saturday
against the winner of the Umatilla

selves a place in the district tourna
men! with a 61 21 win over the
Stanfield Tigers The game »a s
played here at Heppner Friday.

The Stanfield Tigers received the
tip off to start the game They took
the ball down court to score This
didn't hurl the Killies though,
because this was one of two baskets
in the first quarter
The Killies came out strong push
mg the break which set a fast pace
for the game The Killies took
control and played a super game
Heppner was playing good defense
and keeping fouls down
A lot of steals for the Killies gave
them lay ins which wouldn't go
down
The Killies continueil playing good

Tom Meier scored 18 points last
Saturday night and kept the Weston
McEwen TigerScots playoff hopes
alive as they defeated the Heppner
Mustangs 52 36
The Mustangs finished out the
season with a 2 10 league record and
4-15 overall The TigerScots are 6-6
and 10-10 overall
Heppner played a very g «»d first

first quarter, but were outscorrd

points in the second half and the
TigerScots pulled away in the fourth
quarter hitting seven of nine free
throws and play ing tough defense to
secure the victory
" I think most of our problem was
lack of offensive execution," said
Coach Brent Eggers. we totally lost
our aggressiveness of offense in the
second half I thought it was a good
defensive effort throughout We had
a foul in the fourth quarter and when
they hit the free throws there's not
much you can do "
"I thought this team improved
more than any team I've coached,"
said Eggers on his teams effort this
year. We played competitive has

forward to lieing a factor in the
league race next year ”
Weston shot 67 percent from the
field while the Mustangs were shoot
