The Wasco County Kedsides

game of the season and were
looking for their first win I'nfor

the Mustangs fell to defeat, losing
12 6 in overtime to the Kedsides
"This t«'a.m has to play hard for a
full four quartrrs, in order to be
sttccessful We obviously weren t
ready In play in the first half
against Wasco, said Coach Craig
Hitching
And indeed the Mustangs didn t
look ready to play in the first half
the only scoring was by Wasco
County on a busied play that
resulted in a 35 yard touchdown
[»ass the extra point wax blocked
We looked somewhat better in
the second half but we need to
become more coruustant on both
tides of the fuotball M r re looking
for a good effort this week at
Lyle." said Hitching
Ihe Mustangs came out roaring
in the se«'<aid half with some good
consistent running from Cam

gained 66 yards on the ground the
highesl by a Mustang this year
(irsirge capprd off the drive with a
one yard touchdown run lo tie it up
at 66 The rest of the second half
saw scoring chances by both
teams. Ihe Mustangs recovered

up all the broken dreams of th r H4 season, which have long since fallen prey
lo bad luck unfulfilled potential or simply to the realization that the
dreams were unrealistic to begin with Thr baseball season is over
It vre m i as if every season begins the same wav In spring training at
least half the tiallclubs "won't tie satisfied unless we finish first
Ninety
percent of the clubs "have made the strides necessary to finish no worse
than 5«») ' The average h ittrr expects to finish with thr«"e hits out of ten at
bat*, while thr average pitcher is pretty sure that hr w ill allow no more than
2 hits per 10 tries
Along the way. most of the dreams have fizzled By August, the
fence sitter fans have chosen up sides this year the Cutis were the team that
" I always have liked, re a lly," The trams that are out of contention are
masters of damning with faint praise ‘’Well, the So and So* have hail a
great year They've avoided the crippling injuries that we've had. and
they've gotten some great years from guys who you wouldn't expect to do
that w rit, and they certainly have gotten their share of breaks Hut don t
take anything away from them, it's their year
'Translation "No way
they'll ever hr that lucky again, don't spoil their fun >
By the end of the season, we've all sharpen«^! our baseball mind* to a fine
point just in time for football season The Morld Series, with its intense
analysis of every play and its multiple replays from seven angles, is great
for honing the baseball instinct The Kurt Bevaequas of this world have had
their moments in the sun. while the Kevin McKrynold* wonder at the cruelty
of the g<ids Alan Trammell will get to drive his Sport Magazine car and all
the Tigers w ill get their fill of the banquet circuit They'll also gel all Ihe
attention more TV games next year, even the cover of the Sports Illustrated
baseball issue
By next spring, nothing will be the same The same Tigers w hoarr saying
"this is a real 25 man learn everybody contributed to our success. " w ill be
trailing players and looking for an even more perfect combination
The worst part ol the last out of the World Series is none of the things
mentioned above, however It s the realization that once the winning team s
celebration die* down, when the last bottle of champagne is spilled on Ihe
floor, when Ihe last straggling parly goer walks out the locker room door
that he w ill he officially taking the last bit of summer with him Sigh

first game
Their reaction time
was to slow and they were unable

that the girls lost due to the lack of
