a brush fire on East Columbia near

injuries while trying to contain the

th ird reading Monday rxening at the
regular m onthly meeting at city
council The vote was unanimous as
councilmen present considered a
remonstrance signed by a large
number of citizens of the c ity as
evidence of a m a jo rity sentiment
against the city taking over the tank
property and reconstructing it for
use
"The remonstrance stated prim
a rily the objection of a large group
of citizens to having any buildings
replaced at the swim m ing tank
because of the menace they present
ed in case of repetition of such a
flood as occurred on May 2» "
The Townsend plan for old age
revolving pensions was discussed at
the Lions Club meeting "W h ile no
vote was taken on the m atter by the
club, and several members deemed
the plan unworkable as far as they
understood it, there was an expres
sion of sentiment favoring a system
of federal old age pensions
