USDA raises food stamp eligibility limits
On July 1, the eligibility lim its for
people on food stamps w ill increase
by about three percent, reflecting
changes in the cost of living since
last year, according to John W
Bode, deputy assistant secretary ol
agriculture for food and consumer
services
Under the new guidelines, the
grass monthly income lim it tor a
family of four w ill increase from
SI .073 to $1,105 The net monthly
income lim it for a family of four w ill
increase from $825 to $850
To be eligible for food stamps, a
non-elderly or disabled household's
gross income must be no more than
130 percent of the poverty line
The household's net income (income
after allowable deductions) cannot
exceed 100 percent of the poverty
line
Congress requires USDA to
update these guidelines annually to
adjust for changes in the Consumer
Price Index, Bode said
