Last Saturday's lone United Church of Christ
Auction and Barbecue was termed, "the most
successful auction we've had yet," by General
Chairman Bill Rietmann. The day earned over
$12,000 which will be funneled through the
general church budget into various church,
mission, and community projects.
The auction, Rietmann says, has grown from
more than just a church function to a project
which involves the entire community; 440 people
enjoyed the barbecued beef dinner.
The church, he says, appreciated the donations
and support from the community and is able to
return some of that support by donations to
projects which the church would not be able to
make if it were not for the auction. Items which
were left over after the Country Store closed
(almost two pickup loads) were donated to the
Salvation Army.
The Rev. Cathy Barker commented that "The
outstanding thing this year was the spirit of
cooperation. We had more workers and more
enthusiasm than I've ever seen."
