this National Award by Dave
Sinkevitch, a mathematics
teacher at the school. Kevin
R. Kennison and Keith Kenni
son will appear in the United
State Achievement Academy
Official Yearbook, published
nationally.
The Academy selects USAA
winners upon the exclusive
recommendation of teachers,
coached, counselors or other
school sponsors and upon the
Standards of Selection set
forth by the Academy. The
criteria for selection are a
student's academic perfor
mance, interest and aptitude,
leadership qualities, respons
ibility, enthusiasm, motiva
tion to learn and improve,
citizenship, attitude and co
operative spirit, dependabil
ity, and recommendation
from a teacher or director.
Kevin and Keith are the sons
of Donald and Judy Kenison,
Heppner. The grandparents
are Mary Kennison of Cove,
Oregon and LuElla and Ivan
Buck of Gresham, Oregon.

attend family reunion
A reunion of the O'Brien,
Campbell and Corrigel fam
ilies will be held June 9 from
11 a m. to 3:30 p.m. at the
Heppner Elks Club.

will be first cousins Kay O'
Brien, and Scott and Brenda
O'Brien Lyons visiting from

mer spent several days last
week in Grants Pass where
they attended the Rebekah
Assembly of Oregon. Mrs.
Peck was assistant Marshal to
the President. Una Maken,
Holly, received a certificate of
Honor and a 100 percent eye
bank certificate. The assem
bly will be at the Red Lion
Motor Inn in Portland.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Buch
anan spent the holidays at
Phillips Lake where they en
joyed some fishing.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones were
called to Grandview, Wash
ington, on Tuesday by the
death of a sister Ruth Brunel
le. They also visited another
sister Bonita Stitts at Yakima
and friends Mr. and Mrs. K.
Sainsburg at Moxee City.
Mrs. Sainsbury is the former
Glenna Griffith, daughter of
Glen and Valda Griffith, who
lived in the Lexington and
Spray areas.

Breeding and Janet from Gre
sham visited her Mother
Lydia Wilson in Heppner and
relatives and friends in Lexington.
The Garden Bugs plant sale
held at the I.O O. F. hall in
Lexington was well attended.
The club announced that the
trip planned for the May 29
has been changed to Monday,
June 4. They plan to visit the
Herb Gardens, Iris beds and
other places of interest in the
Walla Walla area. They will
meet as previously planned at
the school and are to bring a
sack lunch.
Deuie and Carolyn Lovelace
of Ontario spent Thursday
evening at the Cecil Jones
home. They all attended the
funeral services on Friday of
Ruth Brunelle. Services were
hel in Grandview, Washington
with burial at Terrace Heights
Cemetery in Yakima. Satur
day they visited in Union &
Cove; the Lovelaces returned
home. Joneses visisted with
Mr. and Mrs. O (Hoevy)
Kramerer in Cove before re
turning home.

Hospital in Pendleton.

The lone junior high track
teams concluded their track
seasons at the district cham
pionships on Thursday, May
17. Ione's performance was
highlighted by three junior
high school records.
Ken Snider set two of the
records in the eighth grade
boys. He got second in the
discus with a record toss of
U8'7", and a fourth with
record Softball toss of 2207".
He also earned second in the
pole vault and third in the 100
meter hurdles.
Gary Rea added a fifth
place in the discus.
Eighth grade boys team
scores were: Umatilla 69,
Union 66, Helix 58, Pilot Rock
53, Columbia 40, Heppner 38,
Pleasant View and Weston
Athena 31, lone 28, Stanfield
22. L'kiah 16. and Echo 0.
For the seventh grade boys,
Dustin Padberg picked the 800
meters.
Jill Conklin earned a second
in the high jump and third in
the long jump and 200 meters.
Angie Rudisill threw the
softball, tying for third. Mich-
ell Beck was fourth in the 300
meter hurdles.
The 1200 medley relay team
of Conklin, Katie Doherty,
Beck and Anderson were second.
